I'm leaving for basic training for the army early monday morning, and even though i know thousands have been through it and successfully completed it, im still afraid. Fear of the unknown, ya know? Please just send out a prayer to whatever higher power that I can be strong and make it through this. Thanks.

You will meet people so dumb, you wonder how they can operate a fork and knife. And others so smart, you'll wonder 'Why are they HERE???'
Both will be with you when you are firing a semi-automatic rifle with live ammo.

Good Luck.

Thanks for serving, America needs YOU!!!!!

I want to ask "why?" but I feel I already know...but it still takes much bravery in this day and age to commit to such a life of soldierdom. I appreciate your freedom to make choices and the fact that you are a fine young man on a journey of unknown ventures and commeradery. You will make friends and hold them close for a long time.
My own son has made many lifelong friends due to the military love that is shared.

My baby is in Iraq and hopefully coming home in December or January. He does say that they are fed well there and have internet use (he bought his own laptop and can skype a lot and has a phone that you buy there and buy time on to call by phone. But, skype is excellent...the quality and video is very good. It helps to be able to talk to loved ones while there.

I know you don't know what or where you may end up...but I pray that you will have the strength and mindset to be the best you can be in all situations.

Thank you for being unafraid to serve. I understand your fear and wonder. Here is a virtual hug from me (imagine it) and a piece of my heart  Keep in touch via mingle when you can.

Fear can be healthy and is very normal. Keep your ears open and your head down. Try your hardest even when it hurts. I will pray for you but you have everything it takes to succeed already. Don't ever doubt it.flowerforyou

Like Quietman said, do what your told, never be first, never be last, and for heavens sake never volounteer.
It may seem hard at times but just remember your DI's are doing it to teach you team work and that you need to rely on others to accomplish a mission. It will be over before you know it and you will look back on it as being easy and a great life experiance.

All the way! Airborne!
