Went and saw Halloween 2 last night. Very good movie, Rob Zombie at his best. Just as good as the the first Halloween movie. The thing I loved about the remake was that, it gave a more detailed reason why Michael Meyers did what and how he became the way he did.

Rob Zombie rules!!

Michael Meyers was scarier when he was still a mystery, when he was still "The Shape". Rob Zombie's long drawn out white trash background didn't make Michael scarier. There was no need for an explanation. Not knowing why Michael did what he did was part of what made the original Halloween so memorable.
But this seems to be the case with most modern horror films and remakes, everything needs to be explained. The Black Christmas remake is another example of this. The original was creepy because we had no idea who Billy was, the remake gave us a pointless background reducing Billy to just being the typical slasher villain.

And rumor has it Rob Zombie is remaking The Blob, so we'll probably get 40 minutes of why the blob is the blob before it oozes over the trailer park.....


Don't get me wrong, even though I'm not the biggest Rob Zombie fan, I'm glad he's out there making R rated horror movies, it's nice there's someone out there not content with making tame PG13 friendly horror...
