In 2004 when Sen Kerry was running for the presidency they changed the law in MASS on how to replace the sen seat. Because Gov Mitt Romney(R)could appoint who got the senate seat the laws were changed to have a special election. Now that Sen Kennedy has passed away Gov Deval Patrick(D)is wanted to appoint the seat.

Why dont they just let the people decide instead of changing the law back to what it was. It blows my mind that they want to change laws just to benefit their party.

Ted Kennedy was the one who introduced the change before and just before he died, requested it be changed back.
He also suggested his wife be appointed in his place.

the politicians don't care a fig for the wishes of the people. all they care about is the power of their own party. The country can go to hell for all they care if it means the Republicans or the Democrats can take control

If the Republican governor appoints a Republican senator to replace Kennedy then the Democrats lose their fillibuster proof majority. So of course they want to change to law

I don't if he was the one that suggested that his wife take his place. I heard differently. She isn't interested anyway.

Aren't wives eligible to serve after their husband's death? I think that it's happened before.

Personally I think it should be a special election. Let the people vote someone in.

Their big issue is loosing one vote so now they dont have the 60 votes. The only reason they dont want a special election is it will take to long to do and they wont have a chance to push any more bull**** legislation down our throats.

Come on Winx it was well known he was a drinker and a womanizer back before he remarried. That is what he was reffering to.

whats real sad, is someone like myself who lives in new york, is not allowed to vote in the primaries, because I refuse to belong to either party (rep. or Dem). I dont believe in having to be a member of one or the other, when i refuse to vote for either one just because of their party. Thus I can not vote in the state primaries :-(

This is all mute anyway. The special election will happen. It is Mass so all is well for the dems.

this is part of the agreed pact between the two parties to drive a wedge between us, Arizona is the same way. During the general election you can vote how you want.

It is still high amounts of b.s. in my opinion. I want to be able to vote for who I want up as a primary candidate (so to speak) as well as for the official position. In most cases, a secondary candidate never wins election, because everyone goes with the popular vote of the two primary candidtaes.

If it's a mute point then why do they want to change it? And why did they change it so Gov Romney couldn't appoint one if Sen Kerry would have one the presidency?

Yeah, I knew that he had a drinking problem and like his women before his current wife. I wouldn't say that a man dying of brain cancer would be saying those things though.

He wanted to change it because he was dying and his perspective changed. But they will not be able to change it now so they will have to have the election.
