from a blog where the photo was found....

"Most "Posey County Melons" are grown in Gibson County, Indiana, the county immediately adjacent and north of Posey County, Indiana. Several million dollars worth of cantaloupe and watermelons are grown in deep, sandy, riverbottom soil in the vacinity of Owensville, Indiana. Knox County, Indiana also produces more melons than Posey County.

The way the cantaloupe (really a muskmelon) got the name "Posey County Melon" is that most of the melons that were shipped out of this growing region originally were shipped from rail heads in Posey County and carried that name on the shipping cartons.

Variety information from a produce guy whose family has been selling these for 50 years or more:

*Aferdies
Santa Quois
*Dolly
Superstar

* the ones he likes
he does not like Super Star

There's supposed to be a giant hybrid variety that gets up 18 lbs."

I actually have an orange tree in my backyard. I love oranges, orange juice and orange smoothies. You can make an orange drink in a blender anyway you want it. :smile:
