Ronald Regan cut funds to mental institutions. They even talked about it in my college textbooks. They released sooo many mentally ill patients and put them out on the street. is that all you've got ?...college textbooks ?...did you think they'd champion a Republican President in college ?...I think not !!...you seem to walk around with some Liberal handbook...quoting pages and chapters...were you asleep during the 70's and 80's...sheesh !!...lol... Wow, I must of hit a sensitive spot there.  You got so defensive. Is that all you've got? I told a fact about the cuts. I said that they EVEN talked about it in my college textbooks. It is rare to see a president mentioned in college textbooks outside of history classes. I was doing a psych clinical and he was mentioned in that textbook. It pertained to the topic. He did a serious injury to the mental institutions. That was a sad day when that happened. Nope, I wasn't asleep during the 70's. I was in grade school and high school. Btw, when I was in grade school, I was taught to not put people down or be rude to them. I'm seeing that not all people were taught that when they were children.  it was true I biitched about it at the time there were homeless nut jobs wandering around all over the place talking to themselves and waving their arms around but the one thing he did do was to defeat the Soviet Union and drive em into collapse Yes, Regan did do good things before he started deteriorating. Yes, that's how they became homeless. The funds were cut and they were put out onto the street. That should not have happened. It was inhumane. |

This partially correct... Yes, Reagan overturned the Act that Carter signed...... Reagan transfered the responsibility to the States.. Unfunded Federal mandates... Not Good! He got the Federal Government out of this Business.... Good! Also, the law was changed to allow many that were "involuntarily committed" to become "Voluntarily committed" ....Good and not so good This allowed many highly functioning to get out and return to society.....Very Good Transferring the power and responsibility to the State and decentralizing the Federal "Powers" is and was good thing....we should do more of it....The States had a 2 year warning the the would assume the "responsibility" for Mental Health Programs..... An Aside; My Pell Grant funds for College were also cut.....down to Zero....I knew it would happen...I was given a warning...I made other arrangements ..Ie Got another job while attending College...That States had this same opportunity to come up with the funds... Inhumane........I don't think so..... |
