Continuing from another thread, Optima batteries are not dry cells. They
are Gel Cells which are basically wet cell batteries with gel instead of
water. They were designed as "maintenance free" due to the fact that no
water is lost due to evaporation during the run and charge cycles. Not
the best for an EV. Their circular plates have more surface area,
therefore more capacity. They are not good at handling continual current
draw at a heavy rate. Industrial lead acid batteries can but are very
heavy. A48 volt battery can weigh around 1800lbs or more.
AC is the way to go but you need a DC battery and an inverter to end up
with chopped AC. Chopped AC does not produce a pure sine wave. AC motors
can be brushless which greatly reduces down time and repair costs. A
smaller motor can be used to generate the same amount of torque and less
current loss due to less heat. In the case of DC motors, during the
"off" cycle, when the motor becomes a generator for a brief moment, a
regenerative circuit uses that generated current to recharge the
battery. That is relatively inconsequential due to the fact that once
the motor has ramped up it is at 100% "on" time so current is being used
and not generated. I am not sure what system the new hybrids that
couldn't pull a greasy string out of a cat's ass are using.

then is it true then..as you are driving that you are charging..? dc is
very dangerous.. not to be played with..

gears will add quicker E.T.'S
