I am not sure if you guys will understand this, I know the parents will...(I hope)..

I would rather they used the money for them....so they can travel more, grow babies, and not want for anything...

They own their house, they own their farm, and my son says they have everything that they want...

but it feels as though it's the wrong way round...aren't we meant to buy them the house...us parents???
When is the house warming Party? Do you have such thing in down under? we have it in England Am I invited ? Hey folks House warming
Bring a bottle

We do have House Warmings....usually though they are moving, painting, decorating...then Party for a few days, and wreck all the good work we had done!!!laugh

If the house that I am supposed to live in appears, you are all invited...we can put up tents and marqui's, I guess.........

Word of advise Before you move in and decorate have the house warming that is what we do in the UK
thanks for the invite Be seeing you is the saying round here isn't it?

If there is room for a marquee then I guess you can organize a rave.

Then you are going to need a house-painting party instead of a house warming party....only way we can stay, is if we help paint/fix/clean-up the house for you....sign me up, I'm good with painting and wall papering!!

Well that was fun!!!

I just had a look through three houses...

and the shabby, quirky one wins hands down...

Two are all very picture perfect, 'nicely appointed, with functional bathrooms, and modern kitchens'...and souless and boring...

and the other one is really old, and shabby, with the worst bathroom in the universe, a tin tub on the kitchen floor would be an improvement, and it doesn't really have a kitchen you could cook in....

but it's huge, and all timber and has the best energy, it feels like a country grandma's house...and I think that's the one I want...

the shabby one rocks!!

My Friday was a wild one !!!

Had been caring for a sick child all week...(on the mend now)..

went to work...did my thing, came home, did the mum/domestic goddess thing...phone rings.

The last remaining elder of the clan, quietly slipped away in his sleep sometime thursday night... bummer!...but also good for him, he's missed his love for 8 years, his special girl, my aunt, of over 50 years..so now they are back together.

So a day figuring out kids, work schedules, transport, accomodation, to attend the upcoming funeral, at the other end of the country...

and that evening the phone rings...

Eldest son...sad to lose his great uncle, but also pretty pragmatic about it...co ordinating for us both to stay in the same place, him flying from where he lives, me wanting to hitch hike, but deciding best to fly..

chatting away....he says....

"oh by the way Mum...my partner and I have done our financials, chatted to the bank...GO BUY A HOUSE.."

I say...'Huh. pardon???"

He says..."GO BUY A HOUSE MUM...my partner and I are paying for it"

I say..."WHAT THE....???" ""SAY WHAT???""

noway

He says..."You've got $340 000 to play with...go buy a house"

I start crying and hand the phone to his lordship...

they talk, I cry....

and I am buying a house apparently...scared shocked

My Mom and step dad were both pretty successful in real estate, I myself (with my late husband) have owned three, in other words we know some stuff, feel free to ask me any questions that come up and I will do my best (with my folks help) to give you sound advice.

Congratulations on raising a son who can and wants to do this for you. As a mom YOU MUST ROCK!!!

Thankyou Seamac....yeah, my Dad sold real estate for years, and I have done a property management job for a few months, and the course also...

The house that I like was brought in by truck, taken off it's stumps and relocated...part of the council requirements in doing this is they have to be restumped,(steel posts) reroofed, rewired and replumbed before being signed off on...as well as a structural building inspection and pest control inspections..

SO the old dear has passed on structural soundness and being in a cyclone (hurricane) area the codes are very rigid.

The beauty of this place is I know what the owners paid for the land, I know what they paid for the house to be moved and approved, I have a fair idea of what it needs to bring it up to her glory days, and have access to salvage yards to get original fittings and architraving..it has new gas hot water, new rainwater tanks and external and internal plumbing...I know the market value worth, (done by the assessor) of the house, and it is around the $265 000 mark...she's just really shabby.

And I also have an abundance of tradespeople who are also artistic...so we can create more labour swapping opportunities with minimal cash outlays.

It feels right, and as I said earlier in this thread....I have watched this house for 18 months now....I like the 'feel' of it..genuine, and real.

I don't know about the 'as a mum, I must rock' bit...however these kids who chose to come through me, are the most amazing people I know...so maybe I do rock, by association... laugh

Ahhh ha... bigsmile

You know... you can have your house home and your teepee too!
Ask your friends and find a good real estate agent who will
search high and low for exactly the type of house and location
you desire within your budget. They *may* be able to find
something which you did not realize was available such as a
house someone is considering selling and has not put on the
market yet.

It is a buyers market, take your time and buy wisely and well.
Do not overpay. Use this gift to it's maximum potential and
get your best value. This is one of the best ways you can show your
appreciation. Accept their love. Return their love. You will
have many opportunities to return their love. Take them.

Your beautiful children, your family, your dwellings are really
your hearts. The houses we all rent in life. Ownership is a
mirage of waving dollar bills. When we arrive here we bring
nothing but potential and when we leave we take nothing but
memories.

And....I see....I see a lot of potential left yet for you,
his lordship and your beautiful children and friends. Your
beautiful family. Congratulations to you my special friend
and congratulations to your loves who have the wisdom to
recognize their opportunities and the courage to act upon
them.
