My internet at home isnt working, i think i need to reinstall the software for the modem to get it working.

Problem is, my CD/DVD drive doesnt seem to read any discs.

Could i hook up my old laptop somehow and use the drive in that, to reinstall the software?

I will be purchasing an external drive to use for the future, i was just hoping for a quick fix until i can get to the shops to buy one.

As long as you have a crossover network cable then you can setup a peer to peer network and share the CD......smokin

I might beable to steal one here from my work. I will look for a picture of one and see if i can get one.

What would i need to do to set up a peer to peer network? (if you dont mind explaining it of course).

Thanks for the help!

Check if windows sees you CD\DVD drive first (in My Computer) sometimes it might be a loose cable.

Second if you do not have network cable or know how to setup a network you can use an USB key to put the information on, use your labtop and copy the information you need from the disc to your USB key and voila.

It tells me the drive is working properly.

When i put the installation CD into a pc, it loads automatically, and takes me through a diagrammatic installation wizard(if thats what it is called!). Would i definately beable to access the data on the CD? And if so, would i just copy all the files on it onto the flash drive?

You should only need the driver if the hardware is already installed. If the cd is bad you can go to the site of the manufacturer of your laptop and down load that as well.

I think the cd is probably fine, i have had problems with the cd/dvd drive before.

But thats a great idea, i might beable to download the software straight onto a flash drive right now..

Im glad i asked, i got a few good ideas to try now!

OK, i now have the drivers on a flash drive.

It tells me that my laptop will need to have winzip on it. I dont know if it does or not right now. I have an Acer Aspire with Vista on it, is it likely that i would?

There was a link to a free download of it. But it was 'free', rather that FREE. Meaning, i would have to sign up to some stuff first.

Vista can unzip it, just right click on the zip file and goto extract all.
