I have a habit of calling ladies that I'm friendly with "dear". One time I referred to a girl who I was talking to's friend as dear, and she went back and told her friend that I was flirting with her, when that was the furthest thing from my mind. Would you think a man was flirting with you automatically if he called you dear, or would you possibly think he was talking down to you?

People in my area call people by their name when they talk to them. |

This girl that told her friend I was flirting with her didn't know the difference. This was back when I was drinking daily, and her friend worked as a bartender. I was in a friendly mood, but all I said was," Another beer, dear." I just thought it was witty because it rhymed. |

Would you think a man was flirting with you automatically if he called you dear, or would you possibly think he was talking down to you? Is the man a stranger or someone I know? If it were someone I knew well, I'd probably be fine with it. If it were a stranger? No thanks. |

I can relate to this issue. When I'm attracted to a lady and we get along great, during the conversation I'll try to fight the urge to call her "Sweetie". I like it, because it seems that she would not be offended by it, and because I attempt to give her a status of trust and cuteness. How do you ladies feel about that one?
