the origination of punk strived from the pure angst of bring broke and political.

nihilists, anarchists, anger.

it WAS about something to believe in.

now its just a bunch of skaters standing around playing badly.

it sucks.

i remember the days of anti flag and subhumanz. dead kennedys. citizen fish.

stuff that made you think.

lyrics that meant something.

not about your girlfriend and her ability to spend your paycheck.

i used to be a hardcore gutterpunker in high school and fell out of it when punk changed. when the genre openned up to become mainstream.

now every major city has an alt station that plays an hour of punk on a specific night.

every kid has a moment when they listen to blink 182 and thinks thats oldschool punk.

its sad that the roots the basis has been forgotten.

punk was the foreground laid by bands like the ramones, iggy and the stooges, wendy o williams hell even gg allin raged in the punk scene.

i have a shirt that says punk is dead.

and i completely believe it.

Before any of you start to think I'm a jerk for endorsing a terrorist orginization, I should mention that what they were known primarily for other than busting Timothy Leary out of prison, is getting enough inside information to make sure that nobody was inside the government buildings they blew up.

Oh, yeah. Making sure it's empty is SO much better when ya blow up a building.noway

That makes it alright. Kind of like making sure they know they are under the stoop by keeping a candle down there...speaking of which...that thing probably melted down by now. Well, it is the thought that counts...

I can't believe I didn't hear an Op Ivy or Rancid anywhere in there.
Salvation is the song that turned me on to punk.

I must say, I've been giving it a lot thought and given the definitions stated, The Velvet Underground were not punk.
When the Sex Pistols started, from what my understandings, as one who may not understand as much as any one who would still be this room listening, but they were revolting a depression, where there wasn't even govertment workers employed to to haul away trash, and they had to were safety pins because they couldn't afford new clothes, whereas the royalty were still adorned in splendors, yet all the Velvet Underground sang about primarely was heroin. Their only song that sounded punk was just about gatting head, whilst shooting up. The only reason it had such a great sound was it was a the first take, where the band was just playing around with different sounds, just trying to find the rhytm that the song should be in. When they then, went back, they thought it sounded so cool, they just went with that. They weren't revolting anything, they hung out almost daily with Andy Warhol, which at that time, many thought to be the place to be, did tons of heroin, which gave most of the songs they wrote a smooth opiate mood, and had lot's of sex; that sounds nothing like punk. They were livin the good life, and if you've got to be rebelling against something, at least in the early days, they really didn't have much going against them.
In conclusion, as punk may have evolved less to the point, to where rebelling against something may be less important as it once was,but in those early days it was far more relevant; enough to the point that the Velvet Underground, under the definitions of what punk was, couldn't of been punk.
I'm hoping to be proven wrong however.

Does the Drop Kick Murpheys count at all? What about Offspring?

And no, I won't count Blink 182 because theres only one song I like by them, and the others just bring back memories in Highschool

Does anybody know the name of Blondies first album? I know I could look it up but this is way easier.
