I have recently discovered, though I have done it for years, that I over analyze things. I can't quit thinking about things until I know the answer. It drives me crazy and therefore I will drive the person involved crazy trying to get the answer, or at least an answer I can be happy with.
This doesn't end up well, it usually ends up with the other person telling me to f*** off.

Do you do this or did you ever?

How did you stop?

I want to stop because I drive myself crazy and everyone around me. My brain works 24 hours a day. I want it to rest.

Any ideas?

Absolutely. Everyone who knows me mentions it on a more or less regular basis. I overanalyze everything -- I know it, I'm OK with it. I studied psychology for 7 years, and it has helped me, not only to learn to overanalyze, but to overanalyze my very need TO overanalyze. It's almost cathartic, although it doesn't make for particularly good sentence-writing about overanalyzing things.

How did you stop?

Never did stop. Probably never will, short of severe head trauma.

I finally reached the conclusion that I couldn't change it, so I would have to learn to make it work for me. I don't know if I've actually accomplished that or not, but it gives me one more very large issue to overanalyze.

I HAVE learned how to do six or seven things at once, though. Although that might be more due to my short attention span than anything else.

Guilty too.
I have learned to trust that I will make the best decision possible at that particular moment and trust the it will turn out OK.

I also tend to do this!! I frequently pray an ask God to help me find an answer.

I keep busy, and practice, and pray for acceptance of situations.

I also meditate when I need to.

Yeah, I used to over analyse things until I learned to get out of my head, because its a dangerous place to be. lol laugh

I like the saying "it is what it is".

When you SHOULD be enlightened, you will be.

well just recently, the last couple of years ive started to analyze subjects ive never thought of. It can consume me and sidetrack my whole day. For example my father passed, it's not even realivant in any way, I have analyzed my parents relationship to the point of no end, I know it is what it was and that was their life not mine. Still it something I make a burden. Advice, it's best if something is really bothering you talk to whom ever it is, or if its about something more in genereal realize somethings are what they are and will only change with time, or in someways understanding will only drive you to think, will why, that can be an endless question.

thanks for posting this...flowerforyou this is exactly what i do as well....i always want to know, WHY, WHY? i never get the answers...and its quite frustrating...i havent really found a way to stop yet....eventually in time, each situation just becomes less and less of a forefront thought in my mind as i move on to my quest for an answer to a new situation...so its a cycle that repeats but then nudges the older issues out of the way, so i never actually resolve anything...rant ....

No, I just fake it a couple times a week to increase my range as an actor....

Seriously, I'm the first one to admit how little I really do know....

Fail. I'm 32, and far from old, and I do this too. It's called having an IQ and mixing it with hyperactivity.

Talk it over with friends, family, your dog, on forums like these (without using names), etc. Just, for the love of God, NOT with your SO.

I do it, but I've dated some guys who do it WAY more than me, and it drives me totally crazy. If I tell you something, it's the truth. Don't keep asking the same damned question over and over cuz I ALREADY answered it, ya know?

Take it easy with people. It might be frustrating to live in a simple world of theirs (artificially) make yourself fit in, by keeping your mouth shut, it does feel like you got a tennis ball in the throat, I know the feeling. Then gradually introduce yourself, trying not to confuse the person.

Accept simple answers and move on and keep your opinion and your analysis, which might give away the fact that you aren't satisfied with the answer he or she provided or you know that the answer was a downright lie. drinker

For most people, I'm just a simple guy who works outside and have some really funny jokes time to time.
