I am fortunate to have insurance through the city I work for, although I rarely use it... however I know many who do not have any. From what I have seen those who do not want this reform have insurance, those who don't have any want it, can't blame them. Bottom line..all humans deserve to get medical help if they need it. If someone is uneducated or poor, should they just be left sick? What kind of thinking is that. My Gawd, where the love??

It's not about love it's about money, not much is about love any more and frankly I am not sure when it ever was. It's more about who people think deserves it and who doesn't.

Everyone deserves health care when they are sick.. it is not up to you to decide who deserves it. It's no about money, it's about greed.

How does one fix the problem of 45 million Americans not having health insurance?ohwell

Find the percentage of them that also do not now nor have ever WORKED.

Then get them jobs.

Before we can fix health care... Must fix economy else all else fails.

Priorities?

Yes, jobs first. But..in the meanwhile they still don't have health insurance.

Nature is kind and cruel. The universe works off a balance. If we all, out of "love", took care of everyone, even those that aren't willing to take care of themselves, you would find much suffering as a result.

As long as the majority of people are productive, we are all set. Unfortunately, when a large enough portion of the population is unproductive, we will all pay a large price. Cannot escape this fact.

And BTW, it's never been about money. That is where people get easily confused. It's about capital. You know, property, vehicles, luxuries, necessities? Money is merely a tool the is supposed to represnt capital, making it easier to trade.

No, they do not. There are people that don't qualify for state aid - about 47 million of them.

Exactly. I have insurance now, when my kids were younger and didn't, I couldn't get aid. Made too much money, could hardly pay the bills...terrible feeling. Had to us the emergency room for my kids then ya get a big fat bill ya can't pay.
I don't know the answer, just that what were doing isn't working.

Yes they do, hospitals must take care of you no matter what your condition, financial standing, or even citizenship.

I win.

There is a difference between healthcare and health insurance.

I agree, maybe we should work on a decen health insurance plan. But lets do it RIGHT.

The government is not known for doing anything RIGHT.

Yes, emergency room visits... hundreds of dollars when going to a doctor would be sufficient. Then the bill doesn't get payed.. which ends up costing
billions every year. There is no winner on this issue.

If you get a bill for thousands of dollars, you can set up a payment plan for the hospital.

In fact you can tell them you can only afford 50$ a month. This is ironically cheaper than most insurance plans. Here's the kicker... You would be doing the hospital a favor. It would take the state or federal government about 5 years for them to get ANY money at all. But you would be making interest free payments. (In fact this is a big cause adding to our high private insurance premiums)

Kinda spiffy huh? It's not perfect, but lets solve our problem the right way before we make it worse... Yes?

My point is, it won't be done right, until our government is composed of the people, and stands for the people.

Put them on our health insurance, and i guarentee it will be fixed...

I once had emergency medical bills for one of my children.

Strange thing happened.

It was paid for by a corporation I had never heard of before. (and did not know what they were till the gulf conflicts).

They paid a roughly 30,000 medical bill perty much out of the blue.

Corporation name was Haliburton.

I never worked for them. But they had a fund set up at my local hospital for 'helping' people in need.

See... There IS some good in everything.

Someone who is poor and has no insurance shouldn't have to make a monthly payment just to get their kid to a doctor... thats the part that isn't working. These people are already struggling, they just want to be able to see a doctor, gets meds, whatever when they need like the rest of us. Spending hundreds on what should have been a 60 dollar visit.. doesn't make sense.

I have a friend going through something similar. She can't get state health but her children can. She's just getting poorer no matter how hard she works because of the medical bills.

And now we have all of those unemployed people without insurance on top of it all.

Yep, that's a good way to go.noway They don't have the money to see a doctor for preventative care so they end up in the ER. Who pays for that? Everybody.

My cousin may be losing her home because her 20-year-old, uninsured son needed surgery or he would have died. My cousin charged some of it and then re-financed her house too much to pay for it.

Neither does insurance... But it became a necessary evil when people stopped putting aside 'rainy day' monies for 'shop till you drop' immediate gratification.

If you put the same money in a savings account that you put into insurance payments every month, then payed the doctor cash from that account as you needed to would insurance even be necessary?
