Have fun! I will if she'll let me that close, she might think I'm puttin' the moves on her... LOL.. I should be seeing her in an hour or so....

Ha! that's a good visual... Maybe, you could send a barrage on your approach of -This is from Eddie!! This is from Eddie!! (echo) (echo) ha!
Then run in slow motion to her with arms out wide (like in the movies) and sweep her off her feet in one giant, turning, embracing hug.. biggrin

rofl rofl rofl rofl rofl
I'll work on that...

Funny thing I didn't use my own cue last night, though there was one behind the seat of my truck. I used a friends cue, not the best but very usable.

One of these days I'll get to see you play

I like to just smack the balls around for a couple min's before I play. Gives me a chance to see if the table has any quirks anyway.

My primary cue is 19. oz, my break cue is 19.5... I really need a new break cue but the one I want is just waaaaay too expensive for a hobby.

hmmm I wonder what mine would be... I was dating someone a while back that was going to take me to get one, his friend makes them but I never got around to it...

(Me playing the coach LOL)
Most players tend start out with heavier cues than they really need. It feels better, and at the start you may even get a few more balls (mostly slop). But it gets really tough to improve and to do the finesse shots with a heavy cue. Once they start playing I think most people regret getting the heavier cue. The most common cue weight is 18 to 19oz. I wouldn't recommend going over that weight or too much lighter. Once you have a cue DO NOT break with it use a bar cue for that. A good shooting cue has a tip that's soft and will get smooth if you break with it all the time. Plus a breaking cue has a stronger joint.

ahhh good pointer, thanks! I think a 19 was recommended but you said you had one and I think I would use a lighter one than a man...

Actually that isn't always the case. It's a balance between having the weight so the cue can do the work for you, and still light enough for you to have control. At 19oz it's not like you can't lift it or handle it. Really hard to tell without actually picking up cue and shooting with it. What I like to tell people it, try a cue and whatever you find you like, go 1/2 to 1 oz lighter. You'll adjust to the lighter weight (with the assumption you don't start off liking a really light weight cue, that does happen).

do you get to try them out on a table when you're having one made?

Ok, I have to get ready for a party that I'm already a 1/2 hr late for...

I'll catch ya later...

I wouldn't have a custom one made as a first cue. The likelihood that your preference will change is really high. But the answer to your question is, in a sense yes. You'll want to try different cues with different grips and weights and weight placement plus tip weight and size. Other than possibly the grip type you're probably not going to be able to tell the cue crafter much at this point. If you really want to get the custom cue he may be able to watch you shoot and have some idea as to what will work best for you.

Personally I'd go with a 1 to 2 hundred dollar off the shelf cue that feels good when you use it (try every cue in the house if thats what it takes). BTW the tip is everything. Very few cues, except custom cues, come with a decent tip. Last new cue I bought I handed to the guy I use, and had him take the tip off and put on a high quality one before I ever even used it in a match. If the crafter does that kind of work, he may have a recommendation based on your playing. Go with it, but if not usually it's going to be a med tip (hardness), and don't skimp on the quality there.

I know how that one works, I was almost late yesterday.

Yeah. In fact, the pool cues found at most pool halls pretty much suck cue balls in and of themselves. So it kinda pays to play with your own cues.

I've still got the Schmelke cue my grandpa gave me a couple of years ago. It's my favorite cue, too.

well with my job it's longer when I work most normally.. Today I had to register Jesse b/c they make you do it all by standing in line rather than most normal schools just sending the class schedule.. LOL.. That took so long I figured I might as well take him shopping for school clothes, etc. He had a super fun day I would say, clothes, shoes, new cell, new printer/scanner, new psp game, yeah just a wee bit spoiled... LOL

I also bought him some art books omg they are so cool. He can draw by just looking at things but these will teach him techniques.. I think I'm more excited about them than he is...
