alot of people have suffered from this disease. kinda sounds like a pitty party to me.

its a neaurological disorder affects the poor girl's brain

I dont blame anyone for tourettes. Its good she had the confidence to speak at all about herself, shes very brave.


Seiously though, I help people in my spare time who have mental illness, and have taught children with special needs.


I have a special place in my heart for them, but tourettes kids can crack you up.

i have a friend who has tics once in a while. it sounds like a quack from a duck kind of. would you say he has tourettes? he is in his early 20s i think.

out of curisosity i went to a speial needs school in elementary for children with learning disabilities. to this day i do not know what kind of disability i have or even if i have one. is there any way i can find out?

A friend's grandson was diagnosed recently. He had been mis-diagnosed with asthma for several years. I didn't realize this disease had so many facets (aside from the stereotypical cursing which is apparently a small percentage.) There is also a great short article in on this in Scientific American Mind this month...

Pity party? Hmm would hate for you to go through any type of disability. The fear, the motional pain, the seperation that these people feel from the world is FAR from being a cry for pity.

I hope that you never have to look into your child's eyes and see that kind of pain. Because you know it is one of the most heartrending things you will ever experience.

Everyone can see a broken leg. Closed and simple minded people will never understand mental illness. A very interesting film that deals with mental illness is 'The Aviator'. be seeing you

no one knows

i have very subtle, controllable tourettes. the only time they come out is when i'm around my ex's ex husband that i want to mop a floor with, or an occasional extremely stressful time, and they don't last long, but people think that it is hysterical, and egg me on to do more, and it usually is, but i can't "do" more, lol. it just does what it does, and fades away. it can be very tiring if it hangs around.....and bothersome too. it was much worse when i was a kid. i'd get so damn tired of it, so i'm very glad it faded, and.........what a small cross to bear, when other people are in burn wards or quad or parapylegics, or war vetrans...or worse......

as far as i know, it does not affect the thought proccess, so, mental illness may be the wrong word. it's more like a release of the nevous system, of excess energy, or something like that.......

In college I tried a brief stint as a third shift gas station clerk. There was a gentleman that came in very late at night with horrible tourettes syndrome. He would try to buy big bottles of beer and sometimes ended up smashing them on the floor.

His deal is that he would shout out cartoon characters mixed with profanity. I'm not kidding either. You would hear "Mickey Mouse, ****"! It was mostly Mickey and Donald and the gang like that. Very odd and had to be totally disrupting this poor guy's life. I was scared of him, because he was usually very drunk and very loud and as a young dumb person, I thought he had some terrible mental disease.

I havent the slightest. Sounds like it to me, or schizophrenia. Im not a Dr. though.

That is the oddest thing. You couldnt ask your parents? You could maybe ask them for records. Alot of people went undiagnosed, or misdiagnosed, and of course back in the day, riddlin was given like candy.
