Jesus (8–2 BC/BCE to 29–36 AD/CE),[1] also known as Jesus of Nazareth,
is the central figure of Christianity. He is also called Jesus Christ, where "Jesus" is an Anglicization of the Greek Ίησους Iēsous, itself a transliteration of the Hebrew יהושע Yehoshua or Hebrew-Aramaic ישוע Yeshua, meaning "YHWH is salvation"; and where "Christ" is a title derived from the Greek christós, meaning the "Anointed One", which corresponds to the Hebrew-derived "Messiah". |

I read somewhere once were they used the name Jesus just because it
equaled 888. Could be just a rumor. |

Jesus
English form of Ιησους (Iesous), which was the Greek form of the Aramaic name יֵשֻׁעַ (Yeshu'a). Yeshu'a is itself a contracted form of Yehoshu'a (see JOSHUA). Yeshua ben Yoseph, better known as Jesus Christ, was the central figure of the New Testament and the source of the Christian religion. The four Gospels state that he was the son of God and the Virgin Mary who fulfilled the Old Testament prophecies of the Messiah. He preached for three years before being crucified in Jerusalem. |

Jesus is the terribly translated English version of Ye'shua. Jesus
should actually be Joshua in English. It means "The Lord is Salvation". |
