well i had a thought today well its not like a deep soul searching one but,my sister today her baby!and well we aren't really church-y people now her husband is and his family is.

so heres my random thought of the day so far..does having some kind of religion make you more stable to be in a successful relationship or does it make you just a pig headed butt head that thinks they are better then everyone else and get to be a hypocrite?

im "supposed" to be catholic never been baptized or anything like that but i haven't killed any one either,i just dont like the idea of a book telling me how to think or feel or treat someone different b.c they like the same sex,but yes i do believe in god!

but i dont want to date someone if there gonna look down on me or someone else that leads an "alternate" lifestyle!

like i said its a random thought and just wanted to see what other people thought!

I'm agnostic/atheist, I don't care as long as you don't try to push your God on me. Hardly think religion makes people more stable, a lot of mass murders were committed by people following the word of a "God"...thanks anyway, I'd rather not.

I'm an agnostic, but I do not believe it is an either/or situation. There are buttheads among the religious and non-religious.

I agree with Fear and Loathing, just don't push your religion on me and I won't push back. I think of it as a scapegoat to solving your own issues. "I ****ed my best friends husband so, let me pray about it and it will be okay" WTF is that???

i dont think it makes you a better partner. but then i've known wonderful people from both sides and crappy people from both sides.

take for instance..

i was 7 years old when the lady at the calvary church mom used to take me to told me flat out in front of the entire childrens class that my father was a heathen and went to hell for being a muslim.

yeah horrible right?

but it was that same church where the TA in the class grabbed me held me while i cried and had that woman fired.

so its a draw sugar.

its not religion that makes humans bad. its humanity that makes humans bad.

I'd have to say, from my expereince, it's the opposite. I was a Pentecostal with my ex-husband for years. The teachings of the church and the Bible are pretty obvious -- the man is the head of the house. It gave my ex pretty much total power. He treated me like a child, and made ALL decisions.

So, no... I think it may very well be just the opposite.

I don't think it makes someone better or worse.

take on of your examples...they can pray for forgiveness for cheating...but that doesn't help them with the person they cheated on. and it's not about praying and continuously doing it either. they are all kinds of ideologies that cheat....get pregnant or get others pregnant, etc. it doesn't make someone better than another IMO

it just seems that either the man gets total control and the woman stay silent to look like a good union

or i think maybe that there are good men left in the world that happen to have religion in their life that are loving?

This. You can't have a societal omelette without a few bad eggs.

Also, the Bible says to treat everyone with love, regardless of who they are and what they do.

there are and if someone's beliefs aren't yours...you might want to rethink a relationship with them if the 2 can't work it out. there are good and bad EVERYWHERE. it's not exclusive to just one belief. all of that is everywhere.

Hope not to offend anyone here but to me religion is another form of employment for those that control it.

end of story.. make belivers from non believers and get more donations.
