Yesterday, I was watching some You-tubes with my 8yr old niece...her music isn't bad, BTW...& decided to turn her on to The Who's rock opera "Tommy"...she fell in love with The Pinball Wizard & of course the soap suds/baked beans/chocolate scene with Ann Margaret... Now how cool was that...to share a blast from the past with a kid 40yrs younger than me?!? smokin

How do you bridge the Generation Gap?

Music is a wonderful bonding agent. I've always kept up with the times on musical taste. I am the "cool" mom among my daugher's friends because I have their music playing on the stereo.

In my immediate family, there is no generation gap.

Our music may be different , but I listen to what my Niece and her 3 kids listen to, they also are receptive to the music I play. My son is the same way. I taught him how to play drums when he was a teenager. So you know what type of music he learned to play drums on.drinks

Our number 1 saying around here is: Turn it up.drinker drinks

I found if kids think your cool... Then they will give your music a chance as well... I know I was influenced by many diverse styles of music from people I looked up to and respected growing up... It's all in the presentation... So, I try and have the balance between being a cool uncle to being mindful to what I do present to kids...

The first time I saw Tommy was when I was 5 years old... I wasn't supposed to be watching it but I snuck out and hid behind the couch... I remember vividly through a kids mind the snake going through the skeleton in the coffin... It was mysterious and creepy to me.... It wasn't until much later that I appreciated the artistic value of the rock opera Tommy...

Thanks for the tubes, Eddie! Yea...Billy Idol was great as Cousin Kevin...

When my niece & I were watching Tommy, there were only a couple of places where I had to get a lil "creative" in my explanations...Uncle Ernie was one...& the scene where Ann Margaret is sliding all over the chocolate covered body pillow...I said "I guess she thinks it's a horse!" laugh

One day I am driving down the road and these kids got their damned music THUMPIN' in the car next to me.

And then I laughed thinking about the speakers I blew out in my old van.

I was thumpin' back in the day too.
Some days I still am.
