I have the same problem-no IM button. I looked at the settings too and it just gives the option to turn off incoming IMs. Didn't find info on how to send an outgoing IM.
Where could they be?
spock
what

Hi. As soon as I find out where this elusive IM button is, I will let you knowflowerforyou

If the person you are trying to instant message has that feature turned off, you will not be able to send them an instant message. I believe that is also true, if the person is in stealth mode.

Mark...where would the button appear if you are able to IM the other person?

Thank you. So the IM button is NOT on my profile page? Only on another profile page, is that correct?

Hello, IdAppreciate. You can read up on IMs on the following page (look for the 'INSTANT MESSAGING' section). It can also be reached from your Home page.
http://mingle2.com/welcome/help

One thing that is not included on that page is that a user in Stealth Mode will not have the 'Instant Message' button in his/her profile.

OK, so the answer to the question is:
the person you want to IM has to be online, and have their account set to accept IMs. If a person isn't online, there is no IM button.

if the person is on stealth mode or doesn't have their IM activated then you can't IM them. I believe you can IM even if they aren't online...they just aren't there to answer

I don't see their IM button when they aren't online

I sent someone an instant message but they never replied. What's wrong?
There are a number of reasons why someone may not reply to your instant message. First, they may no longer be online, and thus unable to receive your message. They also may not have time to talk and simply have refused your request. If you don't get a reply, you may want to try again at another time or find another member to chat with.

the way I understood this is that they just aren't online to get the message. I could be wrong though. But they may have turned off the IM when they aren't online as well

I know Charles can clear up the confusion

I know that I'm always logged on, even when I am personally not at my computer. I often receive IMs that I cannot answer because I am physically not online.

If you just close out your browser as opposed to logging out, it takes a bit for the system to realize you're no longer there.

so if someone logs off (even when IM is enabled) then the IM button does NOT show...correct?

That's my understanding, Rose.

There is no IM button in someone's profile if they A)are logged out, B)are in stealth, or C)have the option disabled.
