      I think everyone has a different taste. I have too many to mention!
 
  For fantasy - J.R.R. Tolkien and the Grimm Brothers For thriller - Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child For mystery - Agatha Christie For Sci-Fi - George Lukas and Gene Roddenberry are only a few amongst my favorites but Mark Twain is surely a great writer. There is no denying that

      I do not think many will argue that most of the great writers came from Europe.  It is why I said America specifically....

      You are right about that. I didn't pay attention about nationality at the moment. 
 
  There are simply so many great writers, but I am sure there are some who can mention one single author as their all time favorite. Unfortunately, I can't.
