You could get your LN or 2 year RN and choose where to work. Maybe a Drs office. That would be better than a scrub nurse in the O.R. or even a floor nurse in a unit. Nursing is a GREAT career and it is always in high demand.

Hey now, I love being a OR nurse! happy

Oh that is what I wanted too! drinker But standing in one place to scrub in on a case that was 10 hours, I could not have done. Most of our cases were right about 2.5. (Ototlaryngology) But if it turned out the hearing loss was due to brain tumor you know that goes on forever. Plus, if he is squeemish....OR wouldn't be for him.

Mostly just Techs scrub these days. But its a cool career.
I do have some scrubbing experience, but nothing recent.

How about gynecology? That's pretty much right up any guy's alley so to speak...unless you're not into vaginas of course. Then there's always proctology.

I like vaginas as much as the next guy, but GYN has never appealed to me. surprised

i'd hate that job. digging around in infected, overused, smelly, or just plain unattractive or nasty vaginas all day sounds terrible. and even worse, what if i was dealing with hot ones but got desensitized and bored with them? not cool!

I know nothing about them, but wouldn't want to look at them all day.

its called radiology and it has mass interaction with the patient and sometimes you have to deal with things you'll never want to see. trust me.

no matter what medical field you go into you'll have to deal with something that isn't pretty.

my mom has worked for kaiser for 24 years and i have roamed those halls as a kid and have seen some crazy stuff in my day. so if you're goin into the medical field.. you can't be queamish.

unless you go into medical transcriptionist work. or medical records.

EDIT!!

oh yeah and pharmacy tech is a good one... but the responsibility is insanely stressful.

X-Ray tech or Radiology techs are different than Radiologist. The first 2 don't require MD degrees. And there are different things that make people squeamish. Moving a limb probably isn't going to freak as many people out as open heart surgery.

Back to OP:
If you can't pick up algebra, forget about any job that requires an MD. I'm not trying to be a jerk but the MCATs have a physical science section which is Physics and Chemistry. Both are extremely algebra intensive, they are also both critical thinking intensive (as is the MCATs in general but this is kinda what algebra is about). Bio and orgo (bio especially) people can get by just memorizing, but if algebra type word problems are tough for you, MCAT physics will be awful. (I taught physics and bio for kaplan after the MCATs so I know too much about that stupid exam).

Of course you could get your MD in the Caribbean where the average MCAT scores are far lower than what's required in the US, but I always thought of that as cheesing the system.

Pharmacy school has their own test, PCATs (it also has a calculus section and chemistry is very math intensive).

Why pigeon hole yourself into the medical field? All the sciences are probably somewhat math intensive. You could sell things for biotech companies, those sales rep make quite a bit, it's commission though (because everything we buy is freakin expensive the commission adds up).

Proctology! Now there's one for ya! I can't imagine declaring a specialty and going, "well DANG! I want to work with butt holes all day long". Course, guess we've all had jobs where we've had to do that, eh?

The worst reason to go into the medical field is because of the salary, when it comes to the health and welfare of people you should only join the medical field if you have it in your heart to help and care for people not for your wallet (just a bonus).

Some may start out in it for the money. But they likely wouldn't last long with a heart for it.

One of the weirdest comments I've ever seen. The health care field is huge. It also includes all types of doctors, researchers, health care admin, bio engineers. If anything, traditionally there is a disproportionate number of men in medical school.

You need to become a specialist Mike.....

Focus on Cranialrectumitis....

Let's face it...you could make a fortune if you can figure out how to get people to pull thier head out of thier @ss.

In any medical field position there is always some kind of interaction with patients, but healthcare and medical are always looking for people. I got into healthcare and I will be going to school to become a CNA.

So, we all know America's economy is hurting, and it can rise and plummet (even further) at any point. I was thinking about becoming a travel agent (since I already work for Princess Cruises), but it could be very risky, since leisure goes last, bills come first.

I am currently paying off a student loan for one semester I attended in the past. (long story) I was thinking in going to school forr medical study. I get squeemish, so I was thinking like an x-ray tech, you know, something where you don't entirely interact with the patient so much.

Is there a special name for the above field of study?

What pays the most in the medical industry?
drinks Plastic surgerydrinks
