I've never been pregnant either but my goodness, how could you NOT know? I mean I know those little buggers move around and kick in there... can you really attribute all of that to GAS? noway

I've watched the show a few times recently and the dr's have said that some babies just don't kick that much. A couple of women were told they were infertile and could have kids, one of them had twins.. Being over weight can make a difference but some thinner women have experienced it as well.. Some with other illnesses that they thought was the pains etc.

So is the moral of this story that pregnancy is very similar to gas?????

I can understand if you didn't know for awhile, but by month 6 I would think you should know something was going on. I guess these women didn't feel the need to go to the Dr when they thought it was "something else"?

Well, as a refresher, signs of pregnancy (and various illnesses, most of which should require a trip to the doctor).

Missing periods
Extreme fatigue, especially for 3 months, break for about 3 months, then recurs again for 3 months
Incredibly volatile mood swings
Swollen feet, ankles and calves (the dreaded cankles) and/or swollen fingers
Naseousness (sp?) and/or vomiting, not stricly limited to mornings
Headaches
Extreme thirst
Food cravings (whether it's for normal stuff or not so normal stuff)
Unexplained weight gain
Body shape changes
Walking like a duck
Lower back/hip pain
Unable to sleep in any position but your back and/or sitting up
Having uncontrollabe urges to clean and/or redecorate your home

Chime in ladies who've been there, I'm sure there's some I've missed. But, when you think about it, if you have any of those for more than a couple of days and there's no reasonable explanation, you should go to the doctor. If you're a woman, the first thing most doctors do is a pregnancy test.

However, there are many illnesses that can cause some or all of those symptoms. If you already have one of those illnesses, I can understand making the assumption that it's part of that.

K. So we either reach for Tums or a home pregnancy test.

One woman on there took 2 pregnancy tests and they were both negative. A lot of people don't rush to the dr's. I find it weird to not know but these women on the shows appeared to have really thought it was something else.. One woman kept thinking she had pulled her back out and she was in labor. She had gained weight but thought it was from eating while out of work and being depressed...

when i had my first, my wife was complaining of a slight fever.
she had a fever of about 101. she wasn't due for a couple weeks.

we went in and when they checked her, the nurse told me
she is having strong contractions spaced about 2 mins apart
and that most women would have been unable to stand or
would be yelling in pain at this point instead of simply
walking around calmly, sitting and chatting. she showed me
the contractions on the monitor...

true story!

My roommate in college was similar. She had a slight backache and heartburn when she got home from class. She went and took a nap, and woke up when her water broke and the baby's head poking out. She had the baby in the ambulance, start to finish from when she woke up, 15 minutes, didn't even break a sweat.

I hate her laugh laugh

I think the moral is... If you're having any sort of discomfort in the abdomen take two tums and call 911 just to cover all the bases.

I didnt' know with my second until I was six months along but part of that was that my first pregnancy I was nauseous and sick the whole pregnancy and not with the second and the other half of that was I was in denial because I did not want to be pregnant...lol
