Is YOURS paid current? The fee to have one, I mean. Just got a call that mine has not been paid since 2004???? They are really on top of things aren't they?! They said they would be drilling into unpaid ones and putting all contents into unclaimed property!! I told them that it is suppose to have the little $3 fee pulled directly from my acct. She goes.."Oh..I see where it says here to pull from acct. Wonder why we haven't been doing that?" DUH. I said well don't toss it into unclaimed..it has my deed to house, cemetery, policies etc. Geez, can you imagine if they'd chunked that stuff?! I dont have one, but do you think... Since it was their mistake, are they gonna let the fees slide? Or hit your account with the total of the fee times the 5 years??? |

As for deeds (home and cemetery) you can always get a certified copy from your local county clerk's/county recorder's office in case of fire, theft, etc. That is provided they were filed there in the first place. I've learned all kinds of stuff working for the county clerk. I know that many people aren't doing the safe deposit much anymore if it is just paper docs. They get certified copies, scan, etc and send them to various family members. That way in case of fire/flood/etc, there is a certified copy somewhere. And have a fire safe at home. |
