The Amazons (Ἀμαζόνες, ამორძალები) are a nation of all-female warriors in Classical and Greek mythology. Herodotus placed them in a region bordering Scythia in Sarmatia (modern territory of Ukraine). Other historiographers place them in Asia Minor or Libya.

Notable queens of the Amazons are Penthesilea, who participated in the Trojan War, and her sister Hippolyta, whose magical girdle was the object of one of the labours of Hercules. Amazonian raiders were often depicted in battle with Greek warriors in amazonomachies in classical art.

The Amazons become associated with various historical peoples throughout the Roman Empire period and Late Antiquity. In Roman era historiography, there are various accounts of Amazon raids in Asia Minor. From the Early Modern period, their name has become a term for woman warriors in general.

I'm rather fond of the term "Amazon"...it's never bothered me to be called one...of course, you've got to have the confidence to carry a name like that...

Accepting being called that is not about having confidence where I'm from. It's an insult, here, when people call a woman a moose or an Amazon.

Good thing I'm not from where you're from...but then again...I'm mature enough to know that names are just that...& they can't hurt me...

I had a friend who asked me to go out with his daughter a long time ago. He gave me this picture of this gorgeous blonde with a nice chest. Of course I said YES-no problem. I got to her place and she opened the door. My face was at breast level. She was 6'5" and built. We went bowling and when I got a strike she picked me up OVER her head. She was an Amazon.

i think one should appreciate what goes into what they do, also to persue their dream, and it's a personal preference, on what you'd want to be with i'm a face and brain person myself, and i don't care what the body's like, that is secondary to me. if she happens to be built, so be it, and if not, so be it..... but i'm extremely satisfied with who i like, so it's not an issue for me anyway.happy

Just because the people in my area use the term in a negative way does not mean that they are ignorant of the meaning.
