I'll just start over and say this, as a more general thing -- there are certain kinds of pics I just see as "cliches" -- you know the ones, they show up all the time and it looks like it's done more out of inertia ("Oh look, 472,853,921 people have the same type of camera-phone-taking-poorly-lit-pic-in-bathroom-mirror picture in their profiles, how UNIQUE!") than out of any attempt to say something about oneself.

OK, so all of the girl-with-glazed-look-holding-bottle and please-notice-my-cleavage-which-is-1.1-millimeters-away-from-the-camera and I'm-making-weird-signs-with-my-hands-because-that's-so-cool pics sort of fall into that category, in my mind. There are others but I don't want to discourage anyone from posting them. In order for a cliche to REMAIN a cliche, it must perpetuate itself.

I kinda think its adorable when a guy takes a pic in the bathroom. Its like.. "well, I tried"

I just think its super cute how they made the rediculous effort. And, Im glad they at least got a good pic of themselves.

The fish.. I dont understand. I like fishing... I go on a regualar, but.. I dunno.. fish.. o well.

If hes really hot, im not lookin at the fish anyway.

What is it that makes men think all it takes for a woman to want to date them is a picture of them holding a fish?

real men catch fish, smell like fish, eat fish, and go back 4 more fish......haven't u all got the fish pix yet?
drool drool oops
he wants u to email him so he can fish with u....perhaps, send the fish 2 u, and then angle his way into your computer, your livin room , and then ur fish bed...all the while fishing...with someone else...as there could be 2 fish on the hook.

and on top of it, if u smell like fish, he will tell you.

oh, and if he is a relative, btw, fish r just like relatives, they stink after 3 days.

does this explain the fish picture theory?
um well i was drinking when i wrote this fish blurb.
i would like ur comments. someone told me my writing ability stinks like fish. i had to laugh.laugh

the only ones that really creep me out are the ones of a guy holding an infant. first of all, if that's you're kid, you have no business trolling a dating site, you should be offline helping it's mom to take care of it. second of all, i avoid guys with kids, so when i see the "new daddy shot" yeah i get off that page really fast.

maybe they think the fish pic is similar to the deer pic; "me got big game- me big man." heck, i don't know, LOLlaugh

I call those "myspace pics". To this, I have 2 very obvious suggestions (exercising my common sense):

1. Two words -- TIMER FUNCTION!!

2. In the event your cute little cellphone doesn't have a timer function, OR you didn't take the time to read the owner's manual for your digital camera on how to use ITS timer function, OR you don't even have a digital camera -- there are billions of people in the world who have one of these types of aforementioned cameras. A person would be hard-pressed to find somebody who is incapable of aiming a photography device and pressing a button. Failing that, I'm quite sure it can't be that difficult to find another person to aim said photography device in your direction and press the button for you. Find 'em.

I actually kind of appreciate the pics where she's holding a kid or a beer bottle, or both, or the kid is holding the beer bottle, or the beer bottle is holding the kid, or whatever. It's shorthand for "I can skip this one."

Now if it was a pic of a girl holding an ostrich or a pangolin or a stegosaurus, that might make me stop and look.

I would say the increase in fish pics is due to the fact that it's summer and people are fishing.

Brilliant deduction!

They're trying to tell you what great providers they are...you know "Me Tarzan, You Jane". That type of thing. It's in their genes...it's almost like a ritual...a kind of wedding dance. "Look at me!!! I'm a loser and I can't spell but I can put dinner on the table for you and our 12 youngins!!!"
