Just read snopes as well. The dog was called Hercules, but it isnt the same dog named. The dog Hercules is called the worlds largest dog when it should have been "worlds heaviest dog".

Akitas are also known for being some rather large dogs. I knew a dude who owned one that weighed almost as much as I do (225 lbs.), which was a wee bit disconcerting to say the least.
The dog was also quite mean, too. I had to wonder how he was able to keep the monster under control the way he did!

Ive always wanted one of these dogs, and Ive always wished I had a st bernard. all slobbery.  I had one years ago named Brandy, loved her but OMG the slobber! She always had shoe laces hanging from her mouth. Whenever she shook her head... everthing got a coating of slobber. Walls, people, all obsticals in the vicinity and even the ceiling.  *This is a true story* (St. Bernard) HELLS BELLS. The only Bernie I ever had was named Brandy as well. We had her when I was a kid back in the mid 70's. IF.... IF this photo is real, then it makes my Great Dane Zach look like a Schnauzer. Zach was about 210 lbs, and about 39 inches at his shoulders. I'm 6'4", and he would look down at me when he was in a dancing mood..

I read this link and it does not confirm that the picture is a fake, is only says that it is either a manipulation or just a larger than average dog of that breed. What was faked was the article about it being declared the worlds 'heaviest' dog. That was information about a different dog. As for this photo being fake, I don't think it is. Here is the rear view.  |

I guess you are entitled to your disbelief. Yes he does look massive. I have seen mastiffs and they have gigantic heads. His massive head from the front probably makes him look bigger and holding it up, makes him look taller.
I have no reason to believe this is a photo shop picture because I do photo shop pics all the time and I'm pretty good at it. I will put it in my program and blow it up and I will be able to see any flaws or signs of photoshop by the pixels. |

Seriously that dog could easily kill and eat both people and the horse.
They should have used him in the movie "Kuju" about the saint Bernard that got rabies. |

 This dog, found here: http://dogsinthenews.com/stories/070507a.php looks every bit as big as the other one everyone is saying is a digital fake. I don't think the picture is a digital fake, I think the news story that was sent with the picture is the fake. |

it is photshopped. it is actually a neapolitan mastiff. I see no evidence or proof that it was photoshopped. Just because it was circulating with a fake story, that is why people assume the picture is a fake. I am not convinced. Just because it is on some website that says it is. What they talk about is the article or the story that was false. |
