Here's what I think and some of you might not like it, but tough...

If I was to set my profile up that way, I'd be very surprised if I got any response at all. If I did get a response, I'd think it was from someone who was desperate for something, sex, love, money, or whatever.

I guess I should clarify that I'm not really looking so I don't search out people. oops

but if they email me or I see them in forums I will email

As Lex said, only a small percentage of members ever post. If I had a blank or almost blank profile and never posted, would you e-mail me?

Sorry. You need a profile that strikes a chord and likely a picture, and likely neither is enough to make me email anyhow.

I also find them if they perved me. I look at everyone that pervs me and I look at the profile.

although I have to admit I must be out of the flirting game because I get strangers kicking me in the butt lol. guess that is the new flirt?

I dont mind rattling somone's cage- even though it may appear empty.
Besides, all boxes look fairly the same from the outside...

Those who do email the blank profile, photoless people, what do you even write? Hi? I don't even like when people send me emails that just say hi. laugh

Normally if I email someone, I comment on something in their profile. If they've got nothing there, that's hard to do.

I love the ones where they just say "Anything you want to know, you'll have to ask." But you have nothing there to ask about! (Except "Why the hell can't you make a better profile?" maybe.)

Or this one: "Looking for someone who shares my interests," but they never tell you what their interests are.

maybe I'm just a different character all together. But I can usually find something to talk about...I think others probably get tired of me talking lol. Luis actually spent hours on email with me while I did a play by play of a movie I was watching (I said other things too)

That's what I'm talking about. There needs to be at least something to go on. Unless someone likes to just send out random questions like "hi, do you have pets?" laugh

Such as what, though? If you're sending an email for the first time to a complete stranger that has nothing in their profile at all, who hasn't posted in the forums, what would you usually start out with?

I am just as bothered by the ones that actually complain about having to type any profile at all. "It says I have to type more? Why do I have to type more? Then we won't have anything to talk about."

for me??? I usually ask what their interests are....what they are like, etc. if it seems like it's pulling teeth for info...then it goes no where but I've talked to some cool people.

When I'm hunting for OGP material, I run across those constantly. "It says I haven't typed enough here. I don't know what else to say jkjkjkjkjkjkjkjkjklmlmlmlmlmlmiuiuiuiu" or stuff like that.

Or I see this a lot: "The hardest thing in the world is to write about yourself." REALLY? When did THAT start? Because I find it incredibly easy to do.

Or: "I don't know what to say about myself but my friends say _____________ about me." Well, let them do their OWN profiles, if they actually have something to say.

I've had people email me, asking things that were answered in my profile. When I've asked them if they've read my profile, they ask why they should do that.. saying that if they read it, they wouldn't have any questions to ask.

In all fairness, there ARE PEOPLE who don't know what to say--like ME! That's why my profile doesn't say very much...

You have a picture and post in the forums. So, it isn't quite the same.

I guess it comes down to how you decide whether to email someone. If you don't post a pic and don't give any sort of profile, then I would bet you don't get many emails. For some people a picture is enough to strike an interest. But for me I have to have a reason to initiate the contact. Usually it's because they've written something interesting or something I find amusing. This can either be on the forums or in the profile. But since, as was noted earlier, only a small percentage of minglers are on the forums, then it would take an interesting profile and me stumbling across it.
