Reading the many threads here in the political forum, posting many as well, I hear, see and get the broken recordings over and over again. They are opinions, none are bad, all are a right of the poster to believe.
With this in mind, avoiding ridicule, questions to character, or personal attack on another, I offer this topic to express YOUR opinion as I will mine. You can respond to my beliefs or venture topic of your own. It is a free country.... right? ********************************************************************* There are those who can't believe (even after evidence to a fact) that our government could lie to us, or do anything to harm us. There are those who doubt anything they say, and actually question or complain, even act on their beliefs. There are still many who just don't care, thinking it will all be okay, we're just going thru hard times. Things change. These number many more than we can possibly imagine. Despite however anyone believes, or what catagory you fall under, there are certain truths that can not hide from view. The one main fact, the one we all can see and should be speaking out against very loudly, is that our government as it is today, is deciding the will of its people, not following it. We have been so buried under "political correctness", more and more laws said to "protect our rights" (yet destroying our Constitution and Bill of Rights) passed but written and confused by legal definitions and wording most can't understand..... but vote for it because this or that ad looks better on TV. Perhaps you have noticed that many of the laws or bills these days contain 2 or more issues within them, and neither has anything to do with the other? You may vote for a tax that will provide funding for schools, and in the same bill give up your freedom of assembly. Scarry huh? "locks only keep out the innocent!" Because we make a law that prevents the sale of assault rifles, do you believe a criminal with bad intent or a lack of morals is going to care? It just means that that normal person will have to use a knife or club to defend their rights and persons against criminals (or terrorists) with assault weapons. Fair fight? You tell me! The Patriot Act..... if you have read it, tell me, how does it protect us? Our borders are still open, we still hear daily how innocents are wrongfully abused under its guidelines, and in another paragragh how heavily armed drug dealers from Mexico are shooting up our streets with assault rifles, killing innocents. Wiretapping? They choose who falls under that need, and it seems to be all of us, not just someone who has been shown reason to be. The Constitution and Bill of Rights is specific in our rights and liberties, so they pass laws to make access to those rights and liberties illegal, unavailable or too expensive to obtain. To me, this is not a caring, for the people, of the people and by the people government. If terrorism is such a threat, why are we spending trillions of dollars (that could be insuring our economic stability) fighting wars in counties most of us will never see and many of our boys and girls will never come home alive from? Why are't we instead protecting our homefront, our borders and the liberties, happiness and well being of the people within. I see only one answer, power and greed. It is not that of "we the people", we simply want to live a happy life and enjoy freedoms and comfort, send our kids to college, vacation, pay our bills and have a little money left over.... but what do we have, and who is making those decisions? You? Me? Us? It obviously isn't me, so it must be you.... it's all your fault! It can't be our government, they are looking out for our best interest.....right? |

It is still our responsibility to watch out for our own best interests. We are suppose to work with the government not trust them blindly to KNOW our best interest.
I do not think of the government as evil as it is not really an entity, it is the name for a panel of humans who are as imperfect as I am. Humans who can be quilty of not being able to see anothers position, just like I am. If you trust anything in life blindly you are asking for trouble. |

The way the Patriot Act reads, if we speak out against the opinion of those in power, we face being labled, extremists or home-grown terrorists.
Test this. Put a copy of the Constitution on your dashboard. Report what happens if you get pulled over by Law Enforcement. Put an Anti-Obama sticker on your vehicle. Report if you get harrassed. |

They went too far in my opinion when they labeled us Veterans as possible sources of discontent. Just because I served in combat, and just because I'm not happy with what has happened in the last decade to our economy, and infrastructure, or even wider, on a global scale, does not mean that I'd ever even think about rising up against my government.
Part of the creed when I became a soldier still stays in the forefront of my mind. I will protect my country against ALL enemies, both foreign and domestic. Would I turn on a neighbor that I thought was going to do something ala Ruby Ridge, or OK City? Faster than the speed of sound. To those gov't folks that thought this little nugget of Patriotism up, I prefer to flip you all off in my mind. |

so true so where to we make a stand , united states , or just at home alone till death comes to our front door ! The rest of the world is in turmoil. Are we the cause, or is it a few terrorists? We know we went into Iraq based on lies, as the whole world does as well. We are just further stirring up a hornets nest! We are spread too thin in our dollars, resources and troops to secure real freedom (as is evident every day). We are becoming hated, not admired. Nobody likes a bully! Fighting terrorism in other countries where it has been a way of life for 1000's of years, is fueling its agression towards us instead. Only the war machine wins, profiting from all sides! We made our point.... bite us, we bite back! It's time back off! I say we quit wasting our $$$, kids and resources on others, let others sort their own problems, and grab an easy chair and a beer for a while (while our government does what they are SUPPOSED TO DO... protect OUR countrys borders and make it possible!). |

We're in debt to some countries to fight wars in others....and all at OUR taxpayer expense..... make sense to you to devalue our dollar, outsource our jobs due to the heavy taxes it creates?
What are they thinking....for us? Our good? I can't believe so?! Not to worry, the FED and world banks will come up with a plan to save us all |

Patriot act was written to protect us, and in theory it does. BUT, it takes away too many rights afforded to us all by the bill of rights and the constitution. And allows any law enforcement agency to do whatever it wants, without cause or a warrant. Which sets a precedence for, guilty until proven innocent, which isn't the how its supposed to be. Too many people just believe everything our government does, is in our best interest, so most just go along believing everything they are told. And if someone tries to tell them what's really going on, they can't believe the government would do such a thing.
What we need is to get career politicians out, set up term limits, you get 4 years and you're out of the house or senate. Seeing the longer you're in Washington, the more it becomes about what you as a person and a party member want, not what the people that voted you in want. Have bills in congress setup to ONLY fund what's proposed, not earmarking unrelated crap and things that line the pockets of supporters and the such. And take out lawyer-esse talk and write things in plain English so the average person can read and understand what's going on. Not like any of this is gonna happen, but it needs to. |

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
— The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution as long as the laws aren't broken (like in a protest that isn't peaceful)...under the constitution we have freedom of speech whethe we like what is said or not. now the Patriot Act came about because of terrorism. It was signed by Bush and passed by Rep and Dem. It was intended for terrorists acts such as 9/11....not meant to be abused though |

It has done more harm than good to the average American citizen. There have been many wrongful home invasions with grave results to the individuals or families, detainment and harrassment of children and disabled, restricted travel to many others due to having names "similar" to someone on a no-fly or black list. A simple "sorry" can not forgive the injustices it has allowed. Hi Rose |
