Topic: Asking for help | |

Are you one of those who will ask for help when you need it? Or, do you not like to admit that you can't or don't know how to do something?
I am talking about in a work situation, but I guess this could be in any type of situation. |

Work related - I don't hesitate to ask for help. Outside that, I'm pretty stubborn and self sufficient.

I try to complete things myself, best that I can.. if help is needed, I wait until the very last minute. I hate feeling weak, but sometimes you just have to ask.

That's a problem I see at work. So many people hesitate to ask for help. Perhaps it's because they feel weak. But, it ends up causing more problems because they wait until the last minute, or don't ask at all.

I know quite a bit about computers, more than the average person, but I have a buddy that's a Tech. He gets calls from me when I'm flustered.
I have eight hard drives hooked up to my computer. I did that alone. When I just bought a 40 inch tv, and wanted to hook it up to my monitor, so I could watch media from my pc on my tv- he did that. |

I've always been the designated counselor/advisor/therapist for everybody I know. Been that way since I was a kid, really.
It is difficult for me to ask anyone for help, though. Partly because the problems I do have are not the kinds of things I could easily explain to someone, and partly because there is no one to ask. |

I ask for help, that's how you learn!

I would ask if I needed help
but I've never needed it yet |

I work alone so I ask myself for help all the time.

I learned not to try to be so stoic and now I do not hesitate to ask for help, even if it means I look dumb. Screw it all, screw the ones who don't want to look dumb. They're usually too chicken to ask is what I've come to learn.

As far as the asking for help thing, I'm used to doing what's needed by myself and yet, I have no problem helping anyone else. I think it's a matter of childhood carrying over into adulthood. |

They're usually too chicken to ask is what I've come to learn. At my job, I've learned to not worry if someone thinks a question is dumb. There's one guy who refused to ever ask for help, because he thought it made him look stupid. Though, never asking for help caused so many problems for him and others that it made him look much worse. I have to train a team at work and I constantly stress that if they have a question, it's much better to ask than to guess. |

Luckily at where I work now, its a team effort. So if there needs to be claification or a kink worked out... we all do it together, if we can't do it on our own.
