Greetings,
So I was downloading a CD from DaddyDuck (Charley Gray) today . . . a recently passed soldier friend. I visited him in his home last September. I wanted PHUQUE to hear his music this weekend on my i-Pod when we hang together (Dang I wish Mike could be here for her). I got to thinking about the Army (Lt.) Col (at the time) that operated on my ankle in 2002 . . . For those who really know me . . . a link to excerpts from the Army Surgeon who operated on my ankle . . . and also Pvt Jennifer Lynch way back when . . . he is . . . impeccable. http://www.venturacountystar.com/news/2008/feb/10/excerpts-war-zone/ From the article: ================= Next time you meet someone who speaks poorly of our soldiers or questions their motivation, ask them if they will come here at 2 a.m. and donate. Show always beats tell. Superior morality does not come in sentences or self perception. Besides all I want is a unit or two of warm blood here or there. ================= and one more ================= We save what we can and soldier on. ================= God bless military medical personnel - the most dangerous job in the US Military in time of war - Navy Medic - they back Marines (studs). I know some of you whose sons selected this (medic) MOS. If I could be a tenth of the warrior that Charley (Daddy Duck) was or a tenth of the Healer that (Full Bird) Colonel Herbert Percival is . . . but I am only who God made me . . . intelligence in the flesh, knowledge, listening, interpretation . . . For those who serve or whose loved ones are serving . . . my prayers are for them. Bry :: Bryism: Peace and Patriotism are not mutually exclusive. RIP Charley Gray |

Wouldn't say Corpsmen or Medics are the most dangerous job, but they are one of the most appreciated ;)
Good post. |

You are probably correct.
Times have changed since beach landings. Thanks, Bry |

I always loved the corpsmen
every time I would come in with a splitting hangover they would give me ibuprofen and B12 and give me shots of pure oxygen they saved my life many times |

Nice post, my friend! I can't wait to hear Charley's CD with you on Sat.! If it's the one with the song about Internet dating...I've got it!
Mike (Phuque2) was also a Medic...there's something about having one in the family that's so comforting...until he starts talking about "probing"... |

Thanks for this thread Bry. I had the honor of being a Corpsman in Viet Nam and other parts of the world that people did not like us very well. Having been injured in Iraq a little over a year ago, I take a different look at the remark that it is not a very dangerous job. The Corpsman that came to get me out of harms way after three others and myself were hit, jumped out of the chopper that got between us and the hostile fire and dragged me out of the way and went back for the others. One of them was killed. We are the most decorated group of individuals of all the services. I will never forget...."MY Marines", UDT, and SEALS. I am a proud member of a club that many did not make it out alive from.

If I remember correctly (and after having a tree dropped on me today, I might not) but weren't corpsman specifically targeted in Vietnam or Korea, because it was far more effective to kill them and thus lose more men, then just kill whoever, with corpsmen coming along behind and saving as many lives as possible? I can't remember if I was told that, or read it somewhere. |

There were cards left in villages that said that there was a large reward for a Green Baret and a Navy SEAL and a larger reward for a Army Medic or a Navy Medical Corpsman. I was wounded three times, but they couldn't get this tough man. I just wish I would have paid more attention at training when they went over "how to duck".
