Texan Cop Tasers Great-Grandmother
Tasers probably provide the greatest Idiocracy stories, however anybody getting just Tasered isn’t going to be enough to make the Index. The Taser story must be an extraordinarily mind-blowing Taser incident, like when Michigan cops Tasered a stuffed panther or when Florida correctional workers Tasered dozens of children.

So today I bring you Kathryn Winkfein the 72 year old great-grandmother who refused to sign a traffic ticket. Apparently, there is no way to subdue a 72 year old great-grandmother without using a Taser. Did I mention this was in Texas, ah yes, I did, right there in the headline.

According to Precinct 3 Constable Richard McCain, Winkfein cursed and refused to cooperate. She says nothing of the sort occurred. “I wasn’t argumentative, I was not combative. This is a lie,” the woman told a news reporter for Fox 7.

Either way, it’s difficult to see how the issuance of a speeding ticket to an elderly woman devolved to the point where a grown, trained law-enforcement officer could be considered justified in subjecting the speeder to an electric jolt intended to disrupt her nervous system — no matter what command of profanity she displayed.

 A cop in a different state punched an elderly woman in the face for not watering her lawn.

You've got one of the hardest jobs out there. There are a lot of bad cops, just like in any profession. I don't understand their abuse of power and they do make it hard on the rest of you who are trying to do your job the right way and protect the public. I think some may burn-out and need to just plain get out of that line of work. I worked in the prison system for 17 years and couldn't believe what some of the officers put up with. They watched them closely for any signs of burn-out, stress, etc. So sad when they take out their aggressions/rage on the public.

I saw that on tv, while I agree he shouldnt have tased her, I believe she should have shut her mouth, and cooperated before he warned her 5 times.

He could have even just put her arms behind her back if he really wanted to for resisting.

ANYway..

If a police officer tells me to do something, I do it.

I dont know if she had alzheimers or what

I spose she wont be doing that again.

i seen the video and alto it is a shame that the elderly woman got tazered

the video clearly showed her being argumentative and advancing angrily toward the officer

it also showed that she did say she would sign the ticket

i would say the video shows that both the officer and the woman both could have handled the situation in a better manner

until another goes out and puts there life on the line on a daily basis it really is not fair to givr the officer all the blame here

yes she is elderly but that does not mean she could not have caused the officer bodily harm

you would think her age would give her the maturity to know the battle is to be fought in the court room not on the side of the road

my grandmother is 87 and could do some damage when she's mad. she is very active and can get aggressive when pissed off

As someone already said and I agree, both could have handled it better. The whole damn world is under stress, maybe people need to start learning how to deal with stress first.

Thanks for speaking up! All it takes is a few jerks to alienate an entire community from the police. Do you think more should be done to weed out the police who can't keep their temper?

there are good and bad everywhere. there are doctors that molest patients....lawyers that screw clients....cops that think they are above the law. and they tend to over shadow the good ones that do their jobs for the right reasons

that's why I have a hard time with cop bashing or generalizing one group because of a few bad ones.

I come from a military/cop family and my son is going to school to be a cop. they do it for the right reasons flowerforyou

I have police in my family, one of my past jobs required frequent interaction with the police, and I have been the 'victim' of attempted muggings (in LA, surprise surprise).

So I have a great deal of appreciation and respect for 'law and order', and for the honest men and women who put their lives at risk helping to maintain that law and order.

But the 'bad apples' are really horrible, and some of it has been an institutional problem. Also, I've known otherwise 'good' cops who will lie to protect the 'bad' cops.

One's appreciation for the 'police as a group' can lead to -less- tolerance for the problem cops, not more tolerance, for those who want the police not to be tarnished by those individuals.

What might seem like "cop bashing" might be some very necessary criticism to motivate improvement.
