Yes, it is slang. Such as ain't, phat, and foshizzle. It is listed as 'back formation', which is a nice way to say ebonics. The proper form of the word conversation is converse, not conversate. Feeling concrete? Or maybe my slang post didn't make it clear enough what my context was?
