When my twin sister and I were fifteen, our aunt gave us a sun lamp. We were young and stupid and did not realize that the effects don't show up until much later. We wanted to get our faces really tan. So we kept taking turns under it, with our faces turned upward, directly under the lamp.

After several 20-minute sessions, our faces began to get a little pink so we figured we had had enough. Several hours later, we began to see how burned we were. The next morning we were miserable. We had blisters on our faces and could not open our eyes in the daylight without tears gushing out of them. We had to tin foil our windows and wear sunglasses. My mom took us to the doctor and we had third degree burns on our corneas. It was awful. You'd think that would have stopped us from tanning. It didn't. laugh

Now that I'm older, I will let my arms and legs get a little tan, but I never tan my face. I have enough sun damage and I don't need more! sad2

That is sad and funny all in one laugh

The beds I use have facial tanners, but I usually cover my face with a towel. I don't need more wrinkles laugh

Good idea, that's what I used to do when I used to go to the tanning beds (yes, even AFTER the sunlamp incident!!!).

I've never been to a tanning salon. I know a few people who used to go a lot who ended up getting some gross fungus from the tanning beds. Each of them went to a different place, too. That turned me off from ever wanting to go.

Call me OCD, but I take my own cleaning stuff and use it before I even touch that bed

I am in the sun every day....sometimes for hours...surfing...all my tattoos are on my back, and the only one that faded was one done in greywash ink...it took 6 years to fade and got it touched up a year ago...

I think a lot of that is a myth....

When you are short on time like I am, tanning beds are awesome.

I haven't seen sun in 2.5 years though and I got burnt on both sides in 7 minutes flat slaphead You can tan your whole body including the places the sun don't shine, don't have to worry about farmer's tans, and it's private and don't have to worry about people watching you.

I can get tanned all sides in 7 minutes flat, pegging out the washing....and it's free.

As to tanning where the sun dont shine....for those who dont wanna see...dont look.bigsmile
