The US Department of Homeland Security is set to kickstart a controversial new pilot to scan the fingerprints of travellers departing the United States.

RF identity cards trial on track

The DHS is also set to go-live with a trial of RF-enabled biometric identity cards on June 1, aimed at securing the border between the United States and Canada.

U.S. and Canadian citizens will be authenticated to travel between the two countries using identity cards fitted with radio-frequency embedded chips.

I used to frequently travel between Canada and the U.S. as many in my state have done all their lives. My kids did too. (haha My middle daughter once called me from Niagara Falls to tell me she forgot her drivers license. The whole trip no one ever checked. Not even at the border.)

Many of my fellow Michiganders have cottages or weekend homes in Canada as do Canadians here. Shopping, trips to see plays and trips to the casino were weekend regular for us. Hockey is big here and people frequently travel for games and training.

Can't be done without a passport or NEXUS card, long lines, possible random detention, searches and harassment.

I no longer make the trip.

I will not have a chip.

I am a law abiding American born citizen who wants to travel lawfully meanwhile illegals travel back and forth unimpeded. Pisses me off.
