Jon and I were just talking about weddings and I realized that they are very different in Idaho than they are here in New York.

I told him my daughter and I are going to a wedding Friday night and my daughter said if she isn't sitting at my table, she will just move her seat and sit with me. It is my nephew's wedding but Kate doesn't always get along too well with her other cousins (their noses are too high in the air..)

Jon laughed when I told him what she said and told me, people just sit where ever they want.....

Do you have formal weddings where you live or just happy get-togethers?

Banquet hall, long tables and only the wedding party has assigned seats. There was only one wedding that I attended that stated that it was an adult wedding, no children please. But still, there were no tables with place cards, just a sit where you please type of gathering.

He couldn't believe we really do use place cards and the bride and groom has to decide on where to sit everyone.

Not you in particular, Fear, but when other people in your area get married is it formal?

In Cali wedding go either way, casual and formal.. In NU they were all formal.. Certain amounts as a gift, only money, you sat where you were placed, etc. but once things started and everyone started moving around no one cared, or at least that's how mine was and I was told it was the funnest wedding anyone of them had been too.. Hell my husband danced on the tables while people stuffed dollars in his pants.. LOL...

Guests do tend to move around but when they come around for pictures, you have to make a mad dash back to where you were assigned...lol

Only been to one wedding, won't go to anymore...it was dreadful. Was formal I guess, family and friends all meshed together in one bit melting pot...I had to have a few drinks myself, they all danced, I sat at the table...alone. Peaceful for me, and drinks were free.

it varies a lot here. i've been part of huge formal catholic weddings where they flew in dozens of people and i've been in small chapel weddings with 10 people total. in all cases one guy walks in a free man and walks out of the reception drunk and not realizing what he's just done. haha. my sister's wedding was in between. a few dozen people, nice reception but pretty relaxed.

if i go to a wedding, it's usually because i'm the best man or a groomsman. therefore i have 3 main responsibilities; throw or at least attend the bachelor party, make sure the groom gets there (i had to bust into the bathroom and drag one out of the shower once. that wasn't cool), and most importantly....seriously....i protect his car from the vandals he calls family and friends. none of that writing crap on it and getting finger prints on everything. if i ever get married, i expect my best man to do the same.

Some are quite formal, with specific places for everyone to sit, some have "family tables" Others not so much.

I've been to both kinds. Usually we can sit anywhere we want to sit.

OH NO!!scared scared

Why do some brides do that? I let my bridesmaids pick the dress and majority won....I had six bridesmaids and only two really didn't care for them...didn't like the color, the material, the length, the fact they weren't covered from forehead to toenails...whoa
