I liked George Lazenby in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" Its one of the first ones from the 60s and the 007 character is slightly closer to the book. He was more cold and emotionless and less of a playboy.

Wow! I was thinking the same thing. I read all the books and got annoyed when the movie turned Bond into a "nice guy". He wasn't in the books. He was a charming cold blooded killer.

Alright, you win. We had a good run. laugh Seriously though, a friend of mine had never even heard of George Lazenby so I figured not everyone here would know of that one either. I think he was Australian or something. He was not as cutesy looking as either Moore or Connery. I hated Roger Moore as Bond just for the record. Yuck...

 On Her Majestys Secret Service is one of the best films in the franchise. Lazenby is very good in the role. The film is so good because it is very faithful to the novel and does not contain the silliness that would enter the films in the Moore years. be seeing you

Yes! Indeed. Who's idea do you think it was to make 007 an oversexed goofball anyway? Was that just to appeal to a broader audience I wonder?

Roger Moore was nothing like the character in the book. I think part of the problem was the "Political Correctness" of the time. Cold blooded killers were not what the producers visioned at the best money making plan. The earlier movies turned out to be big box office so the goal was to reach an ever broadening audience including children (the real James Bond as not a good role model).

Part of the problem is also ego. Actors who are big box office tend to add their own personality to a film. Remember 'The Saint'? Notice any similarities?

However, James Bond (DANIEL CRAIG) in the new movies which are no longer actual versions of Ian Fleming novels does a good job of trying to reproduce the tough, cold blooded nature of the Bond in the novels.
