haha

Okay so the undeniably formerly talented Patrick Roy is all set to jump into the driver seat at CO. No surprises there...they still love Frenchmen and are true to their roots.

Still, he has no clear record of success in the minors as a coach or owner. There is one good bit here though. He is an attention whore, a well known public figure, a scrapper and someone who will draw attention (for better or worse) to the game.

As a Detroit fan all my life I like this because well...it will or should put some juice in old rivalries.

Still, I don't think he deserves it.

Oh, and...they could stow the news for abit...it should be about the play-offs now not As the Av's Turn soap crap....plenty of time for that later.

Report: Roy has combo offer

According to a Montreal report, Pierre Lacroix has upped the ante in his pursuit of Patrick Roy to rejoin the Avalanche.

Ruefrontenac.com — a website run by locked-out journalists from Le Journal de Montreal — reported Sunday that Avs president Lacroix has offered Roy the jobs of coach and general manager, and that Roy wants to hire Sylvain Lefebvre and Guy Boucher as his assistant coaches.

The Avalanche had no comment. The Denver Post reported last Monday the Avs offered Roy the coaching job, and in an online report that day also said there was a possibility he might get the vacant GM job, too.

But the Ruefrontenac.com report, citing sources close to Roy, said Lacroix is offering Roy virtual carte blanche of the hockey operations as a way of one-upping any offer that might come his way from another team — particularly the Montreal Canadiens, whose coaching job is vacant. Bob Gainey is the Canadiens' GM and is expected to stay in the position.

Lefebvre, a former Avs defenseman, was an assistant coach last season with the Avs' American Hockey League affiliate, the Lake Erie Monsters. Boucher is coach of Drummondville of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, where Roy has coached since 2005 with the Quebec Remparts.

The Montreal report said Craig Billington, the Avs vice president of hockey operations, could serve as a co-GM with Roy. Billington was Roy's backup with the Avs in the late 1990s.
