Topic: Is there anything wrong with .interracial dating?? l | |
---|---|
Interracial dating has been an issue for a long time,
what is the problem with someone wanting to date out of their race?,, we are in 2007 and things have changed a lot Im half Puerto Rican, and half Dominican female, who is having a hard time also dealing with the interracial issues between Hispanics. We have the Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, Cubans, Panamanians, Colombians, with issues about dating with one another so with this statement Im telling you that not only between blacks and whites is interracial dating an issue but also between Hispanics as well, and Im also clear that there are interracial issues withing the blacks and withing the whites as well, chinise and other races have problems dating, wealthy families have a problem when one is dating some broke ass person so money has to do with that as well so interracial is not the color of ones skin,,,but the background and culture, and wealthy position of the person,, I find that, that is the real issue here !! what do you think!!? if you have an open mind,,please tell me if Im wrong or if there is some truth to this theory !!! |

well what i see is the aspects of inequality it is classism whether it
be sex, religion, culture, economical parts, etc.. I personally think this is a huge problem not just with in dating but in general of friendships as well.. you don't see many ( i live in south carolin) many big groups of people where you have different races, or different classes mixed together, I think partially because we go to a group that we feel comfortable in so part of it is our fault, part of it is socieities fault.. and the only way to really attempt to try it is to try to create equality to the best of our abilities to try to sometimes put ourselves out the box and try to talk to or overcome certain issues of people who could be friends or romantic partners and to try to teach this to other people as well.. .. i don't know if this really makes any sense bc what im trying to get out i don't feel like i've said... kind of like.. we all define ourselves by certain qualities and those qualities hold us back .. ultimately we have to realize we're all equal we're all human all connected??? does that make sense?? lol |

Well sis I think its a combination of color of skin and culture....I my
self have no issues with interracial dating...most that do have closed minds and were taught that interracial dating is a no no ..Slowly very very slowly society is coming around to acceptance. Its not just cultures, skin color money or the lack of its also religious issues as well....many do not date out side of their religious upbringing |

Morena I have no problem dating you, so stop worrying about all that
stuff! |

i do have a problem with humans dating german shepherds.
from a biological standpoint, race doesn't exist. a caucasian will often have less in common with another caucasian than they will someone of different descent. there's only one race, and that's the human one. |

ye, makes perfect sense to me!! and still in 2007 the issue still there
tho!!! |

lulu is right biologically there is no concept of " race" it is intirely
man made.. cause in some countries black can mean your lower class, and white means your higher.. even if your nationality doesn't fit those categories.. and typically it is just the people who have descendants that were closer to the equator( i believe) have more mellanoma than ones whom were farther away.. |

Unfortunately what you say is true, Mo.
It is not only the racial differences, but the social and economical differences that separate people. Kind of the "that person is way out of my league" mentality. Which is too bad. So what if two people don't make the same amount of money or come from the same background? The Montague's and the Capulet's-it's not a new phenomena. Just one that will never cease. |

i have a spanish friend, who hates to be called mexican..
ultimately these ideas are institutionalized with in us, the same goes for gender barriers.. we're taught a certain "truth" and a lot of the time those truths follow over, i went to a building cultural bridges program where i heard an african american man said his mother always said if she can't use your comb don't bring her home" ... i thought that was kind of funny! but i think it is all education and it especially starts with you to educate your children.. even your family about "it is just a sking color," " its just money" etc.. |
|
|
|
exactly. race is a social construct that was invented to categorize
people, and to hold power over others. sadly, there are still people that judge others based on color...my sister is "mixed", so i have seen much of the pain that she has gone through during her life. my daughters were at their friend's house the other day...and one of them mentioned her "booty". the mother looked at my child and told her, "white girls say 'butt', only black girls say 'booty'." unfortunately, this is the socializing of our children. i haven't been quite so furious in a while. |

I think you said it quite eloquently. It's nice to see people, as a
whole, coming together. I've lived with this all my life, and it's good to see change!!! |

and withing races there is still issues..
because in the Dominican Republic, they have a problem if one person from the capital is dating another from the south, or the country,,and they fight to the point of killing for what they believe is right!! |

I think you are dead on morena. I kept referring to one of my neighbors
as being from Mexico and he got mad and started cussing Mexicans. He went to great lengths to make damn sure I knew he was from Honduras, and not a Mexican. Weird aye!!! I was shocked but he was mad and kept saying bad, degrading things about Mexicans. I didnt understand that at all, and still dont, but I had the strong sense that he was being a bigot. Maybe I just took it wrong. Do the Mexicans and other S American Nationalities feel racist toward each other? |

Morena If I lived closer you would have no problem with a date babe!
Thanks! |

Well Morena, you are right, that is the reality unfortunately for all of
us. I am half Irish and half Hispanic and in both of my backgrounds, I find the racial issue to be strong no matter what era we live in. My parents ended up divorcing because of the same issue. My maternal grandparents (Irish) could not accept my father and brother because the color of their skin was a bit darker, but then, they wanted me because I was light. What kind of **** is that? So I am glad, I grew up with my paternal grandparents who had no racial issues to deal with and saw everyone as equal. That is the way I see everyone, and that is the way I am trying to teach my children to live by. This is an issue that has to do with the way we are brought up since the moment we are born. Something that it is instilled in us and breed in us through our years. All we can do at this point is think about the new generations, our children and in my case, my children and students, and teach them that being different is good but being discriminating against differences is not. |

There is nothing wrong with interracial dating..I actually prefer that
to dating in my own race..my issue now is I can't find a good guy of ANY race |
