do not

and i repeat

do not buy a cavalier

if you buy a used car get something foreign

thats my advice....story wise:

i owned 5 used cavaliers...in 3 years...there ya go

I've owned 3.....first one the first car I ever bought myself..no problems. The second one a sweet lil' convertible..again great car. The third was brand new that my ex drove and it always had trouble. I blame his driving and "taking care" on that car. You have to keep up on maintenance.

GMC products are known for their faulty windows. I've had 2 and always the same problems with the driver side windows. Also the AC seems to go out sooner.

there are excellent deals in used cars. try a 5-10 year old car with average to high mileage from the original owner who has all their service receipts...

there are especially good deals on higher end cars which depreciate quickly and offer good value. if the car has average to high mileage then the price will be lower and you will get a car that has run well for its previous owner. if it has been regularly serviced then it should be good for >250K miles as long as you take good care of it also.

always check the vehicle history, try all the accessories, A/C, and have a mechanic check it out, and check for recalls online. happy new used car!

autotrader is a good website for browsing listings to get an idea of the marketplace for various models.

-- Update --

So I drove 150 miles to check out a 97 honda accord, 100k mileage, fair condition - exterior/interior, advertised as recent timing belt/water pump change @ 87k, 2nd owner..selling for 2.7k. Had cash in hand. To make a long story short, wasn't able to pull the trigger and make him an offer..why -- credibility, i.e. didn't have paperwork to prove maintenance, initially didn't explain cause of rattle which was later identified as muffler problem as opposed to engine problem, didn't have time to take it to a mechanic for inspection..

p.s. -- today, i'm going to check out a 94 toyota corolla manual for a whopping price of $1,000.
