I don't know if "afraid" is the right term. I think it is more along the lines of being cautious. Cautious of getting hurt, sure. But, also cautious of unintentionally hurting the one I love. Then, think about if there are kids involved... that puts a whole new spin on things! You have to be super cautious not to hurt them even more so than the adults that are involved. And sometimes... you just have to throw caution to the wind and follow your heart, hoping for the best.

I am not afraid to fall in love. As a matter of fact, I dare someone to fall in love with me.  But the sad truth is that most folks can "fall in love", its the staying in love, or not staying as the case may be, that is the hard part.

afraid to be shot down.... to try to let yourself be close to someone who is not willing to let you get close...or unable. To be made to feel worthless because no matter what you tried nothing was good enough.
