When I go to bed, I can not sleep if my mind is blank. I have to be
thinking about something. Anything. Could be my events of the day, my
pass experiences, and my thoughts about the future. Anything does not
matter. As long as I am thinking I will sleep. And I have noticed that
when I think and I slowly doze of to sleep, I find myself dreaming about
what I was thinking. And it will expand and create almost a story or a
play.

For years now, I have also been seeing images when I lie in my bed and
close my eyes. These images are never anything I could ever describe,
they are always black and white and sometimes, yellow, orange, and red
will come into them. But I can never describe them.

So my questions for you guys are, do you find that you are able to
create your dreams?
Do you see images that you can not describe?
Is this normal?
Can anybody explain how this is possible?

I wouldn't say that I create my dreams, exactly, but sometimes they do
reflect things (or people) I've been thinking about a lot.

After studying psychology for 7 years, it's become pretty clear to me
that the human mind is a very suggestible thing (just ask any
politician) and we do have methods for "guiding" our subconscious in
particular directions, even if we don't fully recognize or understand
these methods. I have known people who say that they actually solve
their problems in their dreams; by focusing on an issue as they try to
fall asleep, it's almost as if another part of their brain unlocks
itself and is able to come up with answers the person was unable to
perceive while awake.

I can say, from personal experience, that some of the best story ideas I
have come up with originated with vaguely-remembered fragments of
dreams.

I don't really know what to tell you about the "images" you mentioned,
though. I have never experienced anything like that. Based on what I
know about dream analysis, I would have to assume they are reflective of
"state of mind" issues, but to go any farther than that would require
additional information.

What kind of additional information would you require?

Basic context stuff -- how long they last, whether they blend into other
images in succession, whether there are any other sensory aspects (do
you hear anything in these episodes, do you feel any sort of "presence,"
i.e., any other person, etc.), how often they occur, whether they occur
in a sequence that intersperses with more standard dreams, any
information you could tell me relating to the exclusionary appearances
of these specific colors, that sort of thing....dreams generally involve
a certain amount of symbolism, often very elaborate symbolism, but I've
never seen any references to the kind of thing you're describing with
these images....
