This is sort of a sad story ladies, you might not want to read it...

OK, so for weeks now, I've been watching the robins outside. They're territorial as all hell because the trees here are fairly new (5 years). I've watched as the males argued and squabbled over the females, the fights ending up with no blood but damaged egos,,, maybe.
There's only a few trees in each yard and there were nests in each one. Well, all but one...
I couldn't understand why this one guy was such an @sshole towards his female. He would keep her hemmed into a small area, making sure she didn't go far. I wondered if she was loose or something but birds will be birds (read up on how chickadees are). One day, he's being particularly mean to her and it's actually annoying. I watch her. She gets a piece of grass or string and takes it up into the tree (not very high). She comes back down. She goes back up. This continues for days. After a while, I think maybe I'm seeing things but I think it's looking like the same piece of string or grass or whatever.
I decide to scope out what she's done, how far her nest is and what do I see? Only 15 or 20 strands of crap, not arranged in any pattern, just draped over the branch. I started laughing. In the meantime, the other robins are done making their nests. Having seen this, I even took some dried weeds and stems I pulled from around the landscaping and left it over there close so she would have material.
For a few days more, the male is hounding her. Same patterns, swooping down on her to make her stay in the area to finish the nest.
This is no joke, last Friday or Thursday, I was watching. He came over to her making noises and fluttering around, then he swooped off until I couldn't see him.
I haven't seen him since then...
I'm wondering if she was a retarded bird and didn't know how to make a nest and he just said "I'm outta here"...

Of course you didn’t… you’re male.

Men only think women are irrational… there’s a reason we sometimes behave in a manner that makes you want to go have a few beers with the guys. Of course, in my case it was usually because I wanted to clean house and he was making messes and getting in my way.

Awww and here I thought this was going to be a thread dedicated to my boyfriend. laugh

~~~
We've a robin outside our backyard who's made a nest and the eggs have already hatched. She sits out there and the father goes back and forth bringing the babies food.
Are you sure it's not YOU who is pazzo and that the bird is actually coming back and forth with worms and that maybe when you're looking are times when it's AWOL? Or do you sit out there the entire day watching for it?
