Here I go again. I’ve lost two potential friends this week. The first I had met when I came back on the site about 2 months ago. Our first meeting didn’t go well, but subsequent meetings were very nice. The second one I had only met in person twice; the first time being about two weeks ago. To make a long story (that keeps repeating with new characters) as short as possible, here’s the gist of the past 24 hour period concerning the losing of potential friend number two.

Wednesday >
- Work locally (local for me means in Virginia instead of a surrounding state)
- Mandatory meeting at 5 pm (meeting lasts until a little after 7 pm)
- Friend text messaged 9 times and called once during meeting (yes, I did tell him I was in a meeting)
- After meeting, spend next hour or so checking & loading equipment
- A little after 8 pm, I hit the road

Thursday >
- At 2:30 am, I check into hotel and crash for a bit
- Too early to call people and I’m still sleepy and have a long day ahead of me
- 6 am – arrive at location and start setting up equipment for job
- Cell phone stays in van while I work
- Friend text messaged 5 times & called 6 times during this time
- 6 pm – job is over, I’m packed & loaded and ready to go home
- Notice cell phone battery is dead, so plug it in to charge
- When cell is charged, I pull off and check messages & return calls.
- I leave a message for this friend saying I got his messages, am on the road and will call him again when I make another stop.
- (I do not talk on cell while driving and make sure people know this)
- When I stopped at a rest area and checked the phone, Friend had text messages 3 times and calls 4 times while I was on the road again
- The last message was a text that said, “I don’t care how late it is. Call me when you are through or we’re finished.”

I don’t like being threatened. If you’re going to threaten it, you might as well do it or I’ll do it for you. Yes, I told him we were through.

I’m still at the rest area that I stopped at almost an hour ago to check messages and return calls. I’ve sat here having a pity party (yes, I cry sometimes) until I got angry again. Now I just want a hug, a shot of Jack and a friend who understands I can’t always jump when they want.

I just needed to vent. This session of Oprah is now over and you can return to your regularly scheduled forums.

that's kind of....well, bull poo. you are a very likable person, and you show class, and give a good ear. people will grasp at a great thing, and hard, to a point of well, what ever that was and, um worse sometimes, obsessive. it's happened to me. but i can usually fend it off, being a guy, but i get scared for women, and i've seen how guys can be.flowerforyou

During the meeting, I texted back saying I was in a meeting when he texted saying to call... he kept on anyway

As for all day today...
today is Thursday (a workday)... if it's a weekday and the person works weekdays...
if a job requires travel that regularly takes them out of the state (meaning on the road in the late afternoon/evenings)...
when the person returns your call and says they're on the road and will call again at the next stop...

Nope, it's not the end of the world if someone doesn't get back to you right away, but it seems a lot of people think it is. I don't think anything until a few days have gone by with no reply myself.

Thanks for the smiley

Thank you for the hug and for taking the time to read my little rant (second time I've ranted on here and surprised again anyone actually takes the time to read and respond to them).

I'll get the Jack when I'm home... still have to get back on the road.

flowers Thank you guys for lending me an ear and for the encouragement. I know it can be difficult to be friends with someone who's not always around, but I do think if someone's going to try that they have to be a bit understanding.

There's an old saying, "A good test for whether you understand a topic is whether you have the ability to teach it to others". I think you understand what is wrong here. The guy is immature. The only real question is what are you going to do about it.

Have a drink and relax. I'd dump his ass.

you're right on about that. they did movies for life and the love of it then. the icons were a thing to behold. there's some good actors now, but the power these people had back then was phenominal...errol flynn, lionel barrymore, the gish sisters and my all time favorite crush, when i was younger, clara bow......

I already did, remember? I turned his threat into his reality.
Thanks... I plan on a drink and a long soak in the tub when I get home.

Check my messages??? Did you send me a text message demanding to know why I haven't called (thinking it would be funny)?

heck no, your e-mail messages...silly, i don't have your number, and i'd let you call me, instead of calling off the hook. and when you're ready, not in a meeting

none of this is funny... at least i don't think so.
