Topic: Who here has served their country? | |
---|---|
With memorial day approaching, I have to ask...who here have served
their country? Or have a friend or family member who has? Please mention them so we all can take our hats off to them!!! The reason I think of this is every year on memorial day the cemetary near my house puts up all the burial flags of the men & women who have served our country. I have lots of family members buried there, including my grandpa I was so close to. There are hundreds of flags that line the roads through out the shady tree filled cemetary. Every year I spend hours walking up & down looking for my grandpa's flag, for every year its location changes. It is so wonderful to see all the flags, and on each flag pole the is a gold plaque that says the person's name, what war and years served. Every time I see all the flags my heart fills with pride. Flags that were once laid on caskets and then folded and given to the spouses...who then gave back to the cemetary to hang year after year. Some are from the 1800's, 1900's and today. I think of my grandpa and everyone else's grandpas, fathers, and friends. What brave souls! I thank you! *#*#*#*#*#=========== *#*#*#*#*#=========== *#*#*#*#*#=========== *#*#*#*#*#=========== ===================== ===================== ===================== |

I'm not American, but I will remember my grandfather, a man I never got
to know. He died in WWII in Stalingrad, and for me it doesn't matter that he died for the wrong cause, because I know it wasn't his choice. He was sent there because he opposed. |
