You don't...just hope they don't. Make sure you have all your licenses together (public gathering tax, and whatever taxes apply to your city/state), make sure everything is "legal" (paperwork in order, monies paid to state for the gathering, etc.). A lot of work to make it "legal"...well, at least legal enough that you shouldn't be bothered. |

Legally, the authorities are not above making "assumptions" (evidence be damned) -- and they can get away with it, too! |

If you know your way around a courtroom (like I do), assumptions are not a valid reason to be arrested. You can actually get an officer reprimanded for the assumption of guilt (did this a few times in Utah)...quite fun killing the power-trip mid-swing.

All I'm saying is that if someone uses a venue like this to ask about a "gathering" of this type, it strikes me as a little bit off. I'd be suspicious right there. And I know plenty of people who have been arrested -- and worse -- because someone made assumptions. Not worth the risk, in my book. I have no faith in the legal system whatsoever -- so I'm not about to gamble. |
