Topic: It's here !!!!!! | |

Just found out tonight that the "swine flu" has hit our little metropolis. I am surprised as we are so small and so far out of the way from the bigger cities, but we are something of a tourist town, so lots of "outsiders," pesky germ carriers anyways.
I go into 4 medical clinics daily and work at the local hospital and have noticed some changes. One clinic is starting to have patients wear masks, for their protection, not just the ones with coughs, etc. And, they had a "disaster drill" today at the hospital, no word on what it was about but my guess it was on how to handle the "flu" should things get bad fast. |

I heard that Enzyte will prevent a person from catching it so I bought some and been taking it several times a day |

better buy some light-bulbs, plastic sheeting, canned water, and some duct tape and start digging!!!! OH NOOOO!!!!!! While I believe we have the best scientists and technology and feel like I am safe, as I'm sure the same feeling resonates with those who crack jokes about it; I would not say this is something to take lightly and joke about. I wouldn't take the scientific community for granted because one day they won't have an answer as fast as the spread of an airborne virus. On the same token, seeing people wear masks should not cause hysteria. Obviously a hospital that is recieving patients with communicable diseases should use a form of air filtration such as a mask. What makes this virus so fearful is that can successfully penetrate the defenses of a completely healthy immune system and kill the body it's in. |

We had a locked down outbreak 2 weeks ago with the Avian flu H3. 3 confirmed to die with it. 12 years ago that same virus killed 16 on the same unit. This is a no joking matter. Its made me rethink my travel plans at this point. Im just watching and waiting.

The hospital instituted their incident command system today to decide how to handle things on a day-to-day basis. Schools were closed in a town 30 miles to the west and about 50 miles to the east of us. No one is taking this as a joke.
People need to protect themselves and their families. I wouldn't travel now, not until things have cleared up. Stay safe Gypsy. |
