I was in by more RAM for my laptop yesterday and my computer guy gave me a pretty scary warning about it.

He said if my wireless network card ever goes, not to worry. It is not the network card it is the motherboard that just fried.

My question is, (It has me rather freaked out)how common is this? Have you ever heard this happening with this laptop?

Please somebody have some reassurance for me here. I am kinda afraid to use it now.

I am no expert, but maybe what he is trying to tell you is that on that particular system the network card is integrated onto the mother board and therefore all one unit. If not, then it should be removeable and serviceable. If he inspected the system and saw a flaw in the motherboard that may be why he made such a statement. At any rate, I would not be afraid to use it, just make a mental note if you start to smell melting plastic.... JK...
