It may not be as bad as you think. I left Phoenix on a few hours notice to come and help out my brother with cancer and going through hell. I had a girlfriend there and didn't call her until I was in Albuquerque, NM. Told her I was driving to Louisiana and she asked me when I was coming back. I said "Never". I saw it like this. She was WAY too young for me anyway and, if I had given her time to talk me out of it, she probably could have. And I know that she would have tried..or wanted to come with me. Being a stupid male, that was the only way I could think of to do it at the moment. I've thought of a bunch since. Maybe he didn't want you to talk him out of something that was best for him. At least your guy said he was coming back.

OUCH!!! Hey, I gave up. I thought I'd "met" a really wonderful fellow on here recently, and out of the blue he stopped contacting me. No fight, no arguments, no nothing. Just STOPPED. We'd been talking online and by phone for over a month. Last time we talked all was well. I know he didn't drop dead because I have seen him online here. And he was the one who initiated and was super excited all the time to talk with me, etc. Really put the chase on me. I am done trying to figure these guys and their motives out.

how would you have rather he did it? i mean if he has to leave... he has to. what would you have rather he done? not leave? lose whatever the leaving what to bring him? i mean... would you rather he suffer for your happiness? thats always the biggest question. you have every right to feel hurt but what would you have rather he done differently if he has made the decision to leave?

Well, you never say what he left for besides working on a potato farm, and I'm guessing that was a figure of speech. If he's in the military, he has no choice. You should respect what he's doing for the country. If he is leaving to work on a potato farm, then it's his loss. But there's gotta be something else missing here. Let us know what it is before you want us to make any judgements on your behalf.
