 I read in an article somewhere that being particularly smart is such a drag in reality because you perceive everyone else to be inferior beings not worthy of your time. fraternizing with people you believe to be 10 levels below your intelligence is a daily frustration, hence geniuses are lonelier and moodier than the general populace. i brought this up because i've noticed people here on mingle who seem particularly unhappy with the pickings here because they feel themselves above the majority in terms of intelligence. i see a constant stream of threads and/or posts lamenting grammatical mistakes, frivolous threads, sub-par profiles, ALL CAPS writers etc etc. it seems to me there might be some truth in the idea that intelligent people are less happy. but then again, there might be a kind of high one gets when you think the world of yourself and believe in your own superiority...  i however am as dumb as a doornail and do not have this problem. i subscribe to the live and let live philosophy and try not to let things bother me. my response to having experienced some of life's "bigger" problems was to thank the universe for the little ones.   anyhoo, any thoughts?  how is life with a superiority complex working for any of you?

I have an I.Q. of 189 at last testing. This is well within the genius range. I have been a member of M.E.N.S.A. since the age of 13. I was lucky enough to be able to attain an education to go with my natural intelligence. But being intelligent doesn't preclude you from being STUPID!!!! As many have shown by not being wise enough to not measure the worth of people by their vocabulary or lack of one. |

Hence the need for the term (and concept) "Arrogant Narcissistic Conceited Jerk." My psych professor explained it this way.
If you view IQ scores on a circular chart, 0-200, a person with high intelligence is closer to 0. Smart people are so grumpy because the mind is working faster than the world around them. Gets tiring waiting for everyone else to catch up. |

i've noticed it too and i've also noticed that people judge so quick they don't see anything past their own judgements. like just because one doesn't bother with grammar in a freakin forum... does that make them stupid? or one who posts silly nonsensical threads? are they idiots? well who the hell are any of you to call that one out? i myself am a writer and have become soo used to the world of grammar check, that i don't bother with it. i don't even like capitalizing my I's!!! and yet ... i wonder who judges me. :P its amazing how people are soo willing to put others down. i'm like you... live and let live. and judging only brings out the ignorant in you. oh... and my hair is now black! yay for hair dye. |
