In another thread I asked where the Liberaterians stand on the issues
because I really don't know and I am curious. That got me to thinking,
which is a dangerous thing , so I decided to start this thread.
Without any political hype or retoric, party bashing etc, lets define
where the various parties stand on some of the major issues facing our
country.

First we must decide what issues are the most importand, I think we
should limit it to about 10 or 12 so this thread is just to determine
the issues. I was going to make a list myself but my list may not be
your list. So without any additional comment please list the issues
that you feel are the most important to you. From that I will try to
make up a list and the post it as a seperate thread and then eveyone can
comment on them at that time.

This should provide for some interesting discussion

The Libertarians I know nothing about.

The Republicians - Where ever the money is.

The Democrats - Where ever the money is.

don't believe me? Check the political news... They report on campaign
finances more than they do on actual policies and beliefs.

I am appalled at how much money just one candidate got in a single week.
I could live like a king on $750,000 a week.

It is a great topic indeed, and we do need to educate ourselves with
which canidate supports which issues. These discussions I get rather
wordy and in dept...(and Im lazy today! LOL)

Libertarians are said to be the ones who oppose government intrusion
into private lives. In its pure form, no tax, no police. The reality is
other than that. I like the idea of some discussion on the issue. Maybe
I'll look up some answers. If what you say is true that David Duke is a
libertarian, I have to wonder how that affects the party line.

Lindon LaRouoche comes to mind when thinking of libertarians. Probably
spelled his name wrong. I think he has a pretty large organization and
is somewhat European in perspective. He has a long list of issues that
are never addressed in the press here. He seems to have his own press.
That's interesting. Not so sure I agree with anything he has to say, and
his movement seems somewhat cultish. He may have some hold on the party
or at least the party line. Maybe not too. Just not sure.

portrayed wrongfully years ago as some kind of radical...not the case..
google executive review to find his webpage I think....
he has some good ideas on how to get us out of our financial mess..and
is
well respected in europe...

Well, the Fed is kind of complicated, but more obfuscated than
complicated. At the turn of the century, 1900, people were well versed
in the monetary system and the problems related to the banking industry.
Proper politics and vested interests managed to put that interest to
rest. Now virtually nobody among lay people know any details about
monetary policy.

The fed has a tendency to protect moneyed interests. This is to our
country's advantage in clearly identifiable ways. On the other hand it
has a tendency to crush the small businessman. Have a look at the lack
of bank failures relative to other business failure.

It has gotten so obvious that gas stations are closing down and the
corners where there once were gas stations, there are now banks.

I personally did not find a lot of LaRouche's writings to be so far out.
I have not read much of his stuff. He certainly is not mainstream and
hears a different drumbeat.

Am I right that he is somewhat a personification of the libertarian
party?

They would repeal the Patriot Act. I was just trying to figure out how
or if it would affect us to do so.

There is a list of their platforms on the website http://www.lp.org/ if
that helps.

I have long believed that the 'government' is way too involved in the
personal lifes of those who are supposed to be free to live it as we see
fit. But the government issues laws on who should wear seatbelts, sits
in judgement over the medical treatment a person recieved (or doesn't)
that should be a family, a personal liberty.

ANYWAY, as far as issues, the only one I have is what harm if any it
would cause to start repealing, and reversing, and adjusting current
statutes such as the Patriot Act, or all those laws that deal with
'personal choice and preference' that should automatically come with the
Freedoms offered by the Bill of Rights. Would it start a civil war, or
would this be just another political party, that once in office would
find it easier to give into greed than to fight the masses.

wow I thought more people would weigh in on this and give us a lot more
issues. I will give it another day or so and the put up a list of
issues as a seperate thread then ya all can take the gloves off and have
at it

Seriosly, and then limit it to a party. from what Ive been reading and
Ive been reading about a lot of candidates from all parties. There are
no two that believe exactly the same on any point. To try and group them
as a party at this point is a fools game. Visit the candidates and read
what they stand for and you will see what I mean. Rudy Guiliani is
leading the Republican party by 19 points. If he is a representation of
the whole Republican Party then I dont want any part of them. But hes
not John Mcain and him think nothing alike. Nor does John Edwards think
like Hillary Clinton. Lets just take a poll and vote by popularity, that
seems to be the way the Republican faithful are doing it, because
Guiliani is an idiot that doesnt even know the cost of a gallon of milk.
I feel for the fool that thinks this kind of politics will solve the
countries problems.. Read the candidate views, listen to them on the
debates. There is no quick short cut as this thread suggest, unless you
want to continue to be sheep and follow the same worn out path that has
gotten us to where we are now... Please people. I beg you. bump!!!!!

What I would like to see...

1. How can we approach the next century. What needs fixin in the world
(there is no denying this the world is now the size of a loud shout).
The things that need fixin need to be started now to have any effect on
the next century.

2. World wide peace. Without it the next century may find us playing
rock hound. (Rocks for our houses. Rocks for our weapons)

3. New energy sources. Not=to 'we will develope them' but=to 'Lets
start developing them now!

4. Dialoge with Iran (and any other nuclear attempting power). Not=to
'Now that my fleet is standing by your shores put the nuke down...
But=to 'here is my hand. Put aside the nuclear sword and help me give
flight to the nightengale of paradise.'

5. all the peaceful concerns raised in the posts above me.

fanta I was just thinking of selecting 10 or 12 of the most important
issues facing the U.S. and seeing where each party stood on them.
Obviously it would be next to impossible to cover all the bases, but I
figured a dozen or so would be a good base to start from.

1) Put forward a national effort similar to the one we had to beat the
Russians in the Space Race. Only direct it at finding a new feasable
Energy source. We have a lot of brilliant people in this country, we
should use them,and give people a common goal and create a sense of
unity instead of the current bickering we have now.

2) Stop our aggressive policies towards other countrys! The ways of the
past and current policies arent working. Many of the worlds political
problems stem from the British emperialistic ways of redrawing borders!
I think maybe we could help these countrys to open negotiations and
settle a lot of these problems peacefully, instead of forceing the
status quo on them. Let them no they must do it their self and dont be
afraid to step back if they cant even if it means they fight amongst
each other. Starting with Israel and Palestine. Israel is not
infallible and could give up a lot of territory.Of course we need to do
#1 first so they know we wont be held hostage by our energy needs.

3)Start a national service program, and use the manpower for peaceful
means as well as to protect our borders. we could use them to fight
forest fires and to respond with speed and adequate personell to Natural
disasters of all kinds, hurricane recovery, floods, tornados, etc...
Security at our airports, and at the borders to control immigration and
stop terrorist attacks from coming into the country..

I have more ideas but its late...Is that what you meant???

#1 & #3 I am really into, and could go on for pages about. Ive thought
them out for quite awhile and considered the good and the bad in detail.
The good far out weighs the bad, esp. #3. There are too many young ppl
today who feel to be an American is a gift. Something they do not
understand. its just taken for granted..The money saved could easily
revamp the education and medical systems in this country and give them
national pride.. something that is extremely lacking in America today. I
could give endless examples I see everyday to support this. Things I see
and I know yall do to..

1. education
2. employment
3. inflation
4. homeland **** beaters ( I mean security)
5. social security and welfare
6. immigration (legal AND illegal)
7. border patrol (not neccesarily same as immigartion control)
8. proper use of our military forces
9. political **** sucking, I mean correctness
