Early-mid 70's- Memorial Stadium in Baltimore had a bleacher seat for 85 cents. Yes, 85 cents, that is not a misprint. At those prices, my old man could afford to take as many kids as we could fit in the '66 Comet. No seat belt laws then.

You could sit in right field right over the visitors bullpen. Got to see the bullpen guys close up. You could holler down to em and if you were cool sometimes they would talk back or at least acknowledge you.

Got to see Nolan Ryan throw in the pen when he was coming back from an injury. 100 MPH Nolan. Close enough to spit on him.

What great memories. Where have those days gone?

My first game at Yankee stadium was in 1965. Front row box seats between home and first base were $3.00. Those same seats are now $2500.00

Last year at least, the best seats at the new Nats park, the ones behind the plate that the cameras see, were $400.00. I guess that's why you saw so many empty seats there. I could go on.

well Georgey boy bought the yanks for 10 mil. and now there worth 1.3 billion, and I think the new yankee stadium was something like over a billion dollars. And the league is worth alot more disproportionate to inflation, hell a beer is over 10 dollars at most ballparks. I haven't been to a game at the new yankee stadium but I'm going May 1st. to see them battle the Angels. I guess we live in a more expensive world (at least for the average person).

I appreciate the memory of the old park but have to confess that I always loved going to see a game at Camden Yards for a "girl's day" with friends. We liked to sit in the seats outfield from home plate...VERY weird to watch from there. You have to predict where the ball is going instead of following it (visually) in order to watch the play (kinda like following the puck in hockey at times) but so much fun!

Camden Yards is a great park. Sooner or later the old has to give way. And if Memorial had to go, well OPCY is a great replacement.

And since I don't have any ball parks in town here, I have to settle for the local ball fields, which happen to be about 6 blocks from my house. In the summer I can sit on my porch at night with a glass of wine, kick my feet up, and see the lights and hear the sounds of local league play. It's so "old-home-town" and really great! Of course, I can also meander over to see a game...that's always another option (just not in my PJs!)

After the strike of '94(big story there. remind me I'll tell you sometime), I discovered minor league ball. Thoroughly enjoyable. I even like stopping for a while to watch a kids' game. Your porch and your local games I equate to a porch with an AM radio in days gone by.

We actually have the Diablos in El Paso (80 miles south) and the Albuquerque Isotopes about 3 hours drive north of us. Have been to those games - they are fun, too!

Well, the strike is public knowledge of course, but I have another story.

80 miles. What's that? 1/2 hour in NM?

LOL...about 1.25 hours in this case. Gotta go through Orogrande (believe me - it is not 'grande') and watch your speed around the Border Patrol and the entrance to the bombing range.

I remember when I was a little kid my grandpa used to take me and my brother to Old Comiskey Park to see our beloved White Sox. I miss those days. He even took us to the opening game at the New Comiskey Park (which is now the same stadium they play in, just called U.S. Cellular Field now). Prices they aren't TOO bad, but considering the Yankees and Red Sox jack everything up in prices, anything is cheap compared to them!
